    When the game is running perfectly. since as you say it is an "addon" not a core feature of the game. you don't need to see how much your DPS is to start attacking a mob.

    When i look at it, the addons that they allow are UI customization only... all others add ons such as threat meter, are provided by the dev, as they do not want PS3 users unable to have them too...

    A first-party cross-platform damage meter would be great, but I don't think it'll happen. Damage meters will exist (and should exist), but they'll almost certainly be third-party and PC-only.

    Yoshida did say that any addon that becomes very popular or like a must might be dev team ported to the ps3.

    That is true but there is a limit to what one can access with out crashing either the plugin or the game in general. The Add-on SDK at least for me is more encompassing suite of functions that I can interact with manipulate in real time depending on how much power is given to us. For instance a access to free company stats live,current map locations,AH prices. Doing something like a live Free Company wide event alert with real time map waypoints for instance would have been possible in 1.0 if access was given to map, menu, and LS functions. More so if a custom Leve menu could be kicked out so it would mimic functions players are use to all the better but baby steps as my exceptions are not nearly that high for it out of box.

    Not all who want the SDK are seeking simple things that can be achieved with out some of that info. Chances are the first Add-Ons out will be data collector tests by the designers such as the duo from xivpads.com for them to improve functionality of existing projects and help along other development projects that had on the back burners.

    But a indirect demand and threat are not really required for that, but it was just a promise some are looking forward to that one forum goer decided that a Pulp Fiction style robbery scary tactic was required. But even the best intentions won't hold ground at the Jheri Curl of Samuel L Jackson.

    What competing MMOs are you speaking of? Guild Wars 2 has no addons, neither does any of the failed ones. There is WoW, but that is waning.

    Custom addons, DPS and threat meters, transform the game into something that was not intended by the game designers. DPS meters bring out the worst in people and the game should be designed to not require threat meters anyway. If they are there, they become ubiquitous and people expect you to install this or that just to be able to do something in the game.

    I encourage no addons.

    I thought they said UI add-ons woul be built in Flash? in that case, Adobe Flash is your SDK, just need to know the ins, outs and functions for each widget, I guess. Not sure where all of this is going though, it's not even beta yet.

    Addons suck. If an MMO makes players feel like they can't play it "efficiently" with it own UI then its over bloated with abilities/power/spells and the systems in which those are use is broken.

    If someone tells me I can't raid with them because I don't have such-and-such addon installed to play , they can go to hell. The only reason people think games like WoW needs addons is because they over complicated something that should have been simpler from the start.

    I missed the days where one or 2 bars was enough to have fun with. FFXIV:ARR doesn't need addons! K.I.S.S. it!

    We’ve received several requests for add-on tools on the Alpha forums as well, but we expect it will take approximately half a year after official service begins before we provide tools as we would like to ensure stability first.

    While it will be a bit in the future, we will make sure to keep you up to date with specific details when we can.

    Even tho i dislike addon and hate if it get to the point that ls make you use addons. I say this is really bad news for the game overall not having addon from day one would really hurt the game in NA where people love Addon to death. But seeing how addon or only UI base and i guess not much of a issue.
