Eh, to be completely honest when you make a rule that involves your paying customers and subsequently you don't honor it, you do have to address concerns over it, or at least, it's the sensible course of action.

Okay, I can't bear anymore conflicts.... First off, is Square Enix being paid for getting people to play alpha? No. Is Square Enix getting paid to pick people in alpha? No. Nor are they wanting to pay for 10 people to thoroughly read applications like a classic novel.... The point is, SE might be wanting to conserve money so, they *might* have bended the rules a little bit and are going to more of the computer generated random way of picking. Also keep in mind they are 2 months off in their road map/ plans and I'm pretty sure they don't want to lag behind even more. So in the end, by probably choosing apps randomly they are: a. saving money b. saving time by letting a computer do the picking. I haven't even been picked for alpha yet, but after all that disappointment, I lift my chin high and await the next day. Believe me, I'd whine just like those people who do if only I was half my age and if knew that someone even cared...
Disclaimer: This is all part of what I believe is happening it not necessarily is true. Just my thoughts is all!![]()
My only real disappointment is seeing some people get their second and third invites while some people haven't had any.
Oh that would definitely explain it. I'm a coder so I'm 99% sure you are right with that. Unforeseen occurrences like that happen all the time.

Honestly, with the way they were thinking with allowing EVERYONE to flood the 1.0 servers, they probably weren't thinking about it opening the floodgates for applications. It would explain why at first, applications were denied, but were allowed some time after the servers went down.
This was my first thought when people started reporting these "inactive" accounts, but I figured someone would have a better explanation <.<

No. No i'm not going to chill.
On the application page it says:
Application requirements:
- Must currently have an active FINAL FANTASY XIV account
So inactive accounts obviously do not fulfill the requirements for alpha.
Still they're getting invites.
I don't see why inactive accounts are preferred over active longtime 1.0 players.
I'm still waiting for an official statement. Please.
You are WRONG. My brother wanted to sign up for Alpha and had an inactive account.
IT DOES NOT EVEN ALLOW YOU TO APPLY FOR ALPHA UNLESS YOUR ACCOUNT IS ACTIVE.
Every account accepted into Alpha thus far is an active account, because the application only allows those with active accounts to fill it out.
So those "Inactive" accounts are people whom.
1. Took the time to make their account active (this signs them up for recurring billing? I think)
2. Then took the time to fill out the Alpha application.
Its not just picking random inactive accounts, so please stop trying to force feed people wrong information.
It really depends WHEN he applied, because there are confirmed reports (Nix's husband) of "inactive" accounts getting an invite. You are WRONG. My brother wanted to sign up for Alpha and had an inactive account.

It could be that they were open by accident after the final event on the 11th, and SE went and ninja fixed it. Or it could still be unfixed as of today.

It is definitely working the way it is supposed to currently. I attempted to test with my inactive account again to see what would happen. *denied*It really depends WHEN he applied, because there are confirmed reports (Nix's husband) of "inactive" accounts getting an invite.
