The TP consumption is to make running out of fights less probable as the fight goes on. My opinion on it at least - since we know it consumes all tp. How much tp consumed may have something to do with it in the end as well, I think maybe once we can test it- it will make more sense.

Also I can only assume you can bind your own hotkeys to the bar. So if whatever spot it is at isnt cutting it for you, then you can change it. I hope there is some / can be some addon that can make double tap hotkeys and other keypress context related hotkeys .. Would like double tap W W or something to get my running going and remove the sprint from the bar all together.

I'm going on assumption that like all abilities the 'sprint' can be macroed. Normally, just like 'swiftsong' i just map it to one of the 1-3 keys on an ALT macro.

On a gamepad it'll mainly be easier since your just moving digits.

And doesn't the sprint 'lock-up' during a fight? If so, well once you engage in combat you'll most likely be holding down your right click button(non-back pedal button) to flee out of there. And if not, well there's still the macroability.

What do you mean by lockup? Also... wonder if they will let movement speed buffs stack XD.

/More Random - It would be cool to see a gyshal green system like in Zelda (carrots) so that you can sprint your chocobo.. XD

Really though, do you really want a macro for Sprint? Run, macro, head to destination, run, macro, head to destination. Would you ever get tired of the redundancy?

How much is the speed boost anyhow? I wouldn't expect anything more than 25% from it once mounts return. And regardless of how much faster mounts are, as long as they are faster, they will be more useful. When you can summon your own chocobo, do you ever feel the need to use a rental? Additionally, there are places where mounts cannot be used, and even a little boost would be useful.

This particular ability is not meant as a constant speed boost you are to spam at every single opportunity, though many will likely attempt to do so. It is a simple temporary increase in speed to travel smaller distances quicker. For instance, when you're attempting to flee or sprint through a dangerous area you cannot traverse via mount.

Most of your complaints are founded on the concept that all you will do while traveling is press this button continually, without alternative, when there are, in fact, alternatives available.
Perhaps you are right; I have yet to read anything stating the intent behind the Sprint ability. But even so, it is human nature to want to get from point A to point B in as little time as possible, so once again, you are correct; some people will spam it through town if it gets them where they are going 10 seconds faster.

    That's how I played leves in 1.0...

Run macro, finish enemy... run macro, finish enemy... run BATTLE VOICE macro.... finish leve. >_>

    outdoor levequests:
Run to destinations, kill monsters, chocobo, get off chocobo. Now that I think of it, we'd probably use our chocobos/mounts more often than sprint.

There's also the auto-run to free the hand from the WASD keys.

Probably won't stack speed buffs, but I'd like to see gyshal green turbo boosts!

It's a mechanism that makes use of TP when not in battle, or on a battle class. It can be used as a short burst of speed with the cost of not having TP for a while, so not something one can abuse when among mobs. It's beyond the simple mechanic of whether you're engaged or not.

That all being said, the duration-to-TP cost balance may be tweaked for beta/release perhaps to make it less spammy, but for the most part it's something to use in towns to move short distances quickly so it seems fine. There's Aethernet for longer runs within town, and chocobo/mount outside town.

Ultimately, non-issue. It's ONLY a plus compared to before. Your thread gives the impression of a 3 year-old being handed delicious chocolate ice-cream, and then instead of being happy about it complaining that it's not chocolate chip. Sure, you're not complaining explicitly, but still forming a cynical perspective on a feature that has no down side whatsoever.

They should just make shift key sprint, and let TP drain over time until you stop sprinting, or ran out of TP.

Have you ever played SWTOR? I'm not "forming" a perspective on this, I have a perspective on it. I'm telling you, this feature is so lame the way it's implemented. It's not really any one bullet point I mentioned, it's all of it together.

Look, I'm capable of having a perspective on game design. If I see something done poorly, I'll feel free to call out the dev team on it. I'm also not in a nursing home and my medical insurance is not paying for FFXIV. If I think something in the game is done poorly I am going to say so, right here on the forums. No company is handing me a goddamn ice cream cone by putting something into their product. You talk like you're suckling on the teet of someone you dare not cross lest they stop giving you their gracious nuggets of sugar. Are you afraid to criticize? Would you be fine if Square Enix ceased to exist? Not everybody here is married to the company and we're fine discussing game design without resorting to analogies about "not being content with what you're given". Jesus, it's a Japanese videogame company that is still making the game TWO YEARS after release and struggling to make the right choices. They have now copied a game that was made in 2004. Do you think my criticism is unwarranted? Square Enix should be glad they have forums where people like me can post honest feedback about game features and hopefully salvage their shitty reputation in the video game world. But they're not going to do it with any thanks to you, who lovingly suckles from Grandmother SE. I find your perspective and others' in your shoes to be very troubling.
