There WAS actually a class action lawsuit filed against SE/an FFXI GM because he mistreated someone with dyslexia. It may be related to that, but I don't know what the timeline for it was. All I can tell you is that FFXI's and FFXIV's GMs have been completely useless to me from start to finish, on both games.

Ah, but will facing north-by-northeast at 2:45 a.m. while the moon is a waning crescent result in a 27% increase in your chances to synthesize HQ mythril ingots!? That is real the question! ~Fernehalwes~

I don't see why there is a need for a proactive party search. That would mean the content finder isn't doing it's job. As for LS/FC, it's a matter of opinion. Some prefer shouting for random people, some invite people after they got to know them a bit. Trading... there are market wards/AH for that. If people want the item, they will go there, shouting doesn't magically make someone want your stuff.

edit: the thing with it being optional... once you disable it and someone uses it expecting you to use it too, it will end up in "Y U NO LISTEN?!" misunderstandings. And having to turn it on/off all the time is a bother.

Have it optional because I like global chat. It's hilarious at times, usefull sometimes, and extremely annoying other times. So have it optional and no one will complain. Global chat should have a filter. WoW's new chat filter works nearly perfect. There's no more spam. Not anywhere near the level of before.

@ the main point - sorry for getting off topic a little..

I think there should be a linkpearl owned by an NPC that you can obtain that will also have other real players in it, an optional massive channel (that doesn't have the limits like a normal pearl). Perhaps you can turn on and off particular city territories (Thanalan/La Noseca/Black Shroud).

(The right click report spam feature should definitely be in, even if there is not mass channel)

@that is very interesting Wolfie, that may be the issue right there. Because you are right I noticed a significant difference from starting FFXI and then part way in.

Because with a proactive search you can potentially target people who aren't actively using these other systems but would still like to do whatever it is that you're searching about. There are numerous times in WOW where I've join people on group quests, raids, PVP, and whatever else because someone asked about it in zone or global chat. It's also used to set up "pre-made" battleground and dungeon groups, instead of relying on randoms from the cross realm dungeon/raid/PVP finder.

And it also has invaluable use for people who don't know what to do in a game, because they can just ask zone/global chat about something, and get an answer right away, instead of having to dig through fansite guides or wait on forum posts.

Let me ask you this, why are you so against a feature that is optional?

I agree with this. I'm really hoping we have a server chat in ARR. Most MMOs have this these days.

Ah yeah. I remember back when Ps2 FFXI came out someone complained about having their mule banned because the name 'no' was offensive to JP. The user didn't have time to move his inventory out of his mule and lost everything that was stored on that character.

Server chat would be nice, though maybe by default it's switched off. So you can tune in to see what's going on and what not. Though I wonder if this will cause players to spread out more as well since there's no use to having a 'hub' town to go to... no?
