People role playing as an adventurer in a game, while said character is role playing as an interstellar fairy princes!?
Oh gawd! where to begin.. Well role playing in a mmo is basically always (when in character) looking through the eyes of your character, just as you do in cutscenes and quests you're "Your" character while being "In character"(meaning you don't always have to be "in character" but choose when to(usually done by turning afk on to represent your out of character at the moment).
Confusing?
not really..
picture another FF title in this case let's say lightning. Shes serious, shes deadly and I doubt she would gonna randomly decide to dress up like the chocobo lady and start a hour comedy on the side of the road somewhere. Your character (in character) should have a background you've created and if it's a seriously quiet person, you want to "show" that. perhaps you don't speak a lot, "/em crosses his arms and stares at Katrina" or perhaps you respond in "..." more likely then actual text. Playing shy is usually a nice way for a newer roleplayer to grasp the strings.

Now if your going to role play as an interstellar fairy princes expect people to treat you as they would in real life if you ran up to someone in a tutu and proclaimed yourself a interstellar princess. Dependant on the in character characters attitude and that of the person playing it they will all act differently. One would call you names perhaps, one would ignore and blist you, one would laugh, and the three to the corner will walk away quietly as to not disturb the crazy person.

Running around uldah in your underwear yelling at people, trolling, lol'ing, and talking about obama isn't really roleplaying while roleplaying unless your female character is secretly a real man in real life trying to scam some other guy out of gil for some sexting. What roleplay is is not talking out of character, speaking as your character would and as if the game world was "the world". You don't walk up to people in public naked pulling out a nerf gun over and over proclaiming "I R LulZ"

There's as many personalities to roleplaying as their is in real life, but if you want to be crazy, spell stupid and make a outrageous story don't expect a lot of love from other roleplayers who want to take things more seriously. On the other hand some people won't care. So really it's a matter as it is when you don't roleplay, of surrounding yourself with friends, not people you don't want to play with.

Consider it another way to play a game or a little extra spice for those who like story in their games <3
