i think it's a bit more convenient to jump over a mile long fence, than to walk around it.Jump jump jump jump jump jump.
Jumping seems to serve almost no purpose except to make me wonder why somebody is jumping. I was going to wait to complain until I saw how nervous players would be, but after seeing the Live Letter and now even this video where the PR rep can't keep from jumping, I must say that I really hate the jumping. It is really distracting. It looks bad (one should jump differently if one is running vs. standing still). It also seems like it will actually be unneeded to actually get anywhere.
The jumping needs to be fixed.
[Edit: I address a lot of criticism later in this thread and a lot of good points were made. I encourage anybody interested in this to read the thread.]
why is jumping bothering so many people so much? he only jumped 30 times in a 6min vid
they aren't gonna *fix* it, for the same reason they removed turn animations.
It looks nice, though i think the dungeon needs to be darkerlooks kinda stiff with global lighting. there should be glowing plants, or fireflies or other lightsources to brighten up some areas of interest. and some darker areas to make it a bit more gloomy and atomspheric.
Ehh, I wish they would have done something akin to X-2 where you could jump, but only in certain places. You couldn't just jump anywhere.
Maybe if there was a way to vault over fences or short walls with a unique vaulting animation depending on the race, you run up to the fence, use a context sensitive command, and vault on over. That at least would be tasteful.
Also, could have a separate animation for jumping off a ledge. Go up to a ledge for the context command, then kneel and hop down to the lower level.
Jumping per se is fine. Jumping on flat ground while running is obnoxious to many people on the other hand.
False. They didn't add them yet.they removed turn animations.
Lighting is not final yet either, the beta build is some months ahead on that.It looks nice, though i think the dungeon needs to be darkerlooks kinda stiff with global lighting. there should be glowing plants, or fireflies or other lightsources to brighten up some areas of interest. and some darker areas to make it a bit more gloomy and atomspheric.

I find it difficult to understand why ppl are bothered by such a small thing. but i suppose some ppl would explode if they didnt have something to whine about.
hmm, thought i read in some letter that they wern't gonna add turn animations etc, cause it hinders mobility etc.
and then there's the *it's just beta* excuse, that they want to stay away from![]()
I suggest you pay a visit to the Translations - JP to English thread and go to the last 10 or so pages. There's quite the bucket-load of information there.I find it difficult to understand why ppl are bothered by such a small thing. but i suppose some ppl would explode if they didnt have something to whine about.

It's a subjective matter. It might be a minor thing to you and not so minor to others. In any case, they listened as the newest video only had jumping where it was needed.

Honestly it's not really needed at all (or so I thought) since they said it will have no real purpose and is there simply for the aesthetic and novelty of being able to jump.
I don't see any novelty in it, not even for a FF. We could discuss it to death, but jumping is here to stay, so it's kinda useless.

I wasn't being argumentative. I have no problems with jumping and actually look forward to the added feature. I was just commenting that they said they weren't adding jump for any practical purposes, therefore it's a novelty and there is no "jumping where needed"
