Not enough Facepalms
Personally, I think that zones will definitely be beneficial to those who were having tons of difficulty with lag. Talah <--
I liked the zone idea to be honest.
There are loading zones in both seamless and delimited worlds. The only odd thing SE has done is go back to the old dotted delimiter and zone title system. It does not affect the speed of loading ... or even game design really. Zoning allows modular programming which is necessary in all large games. Your system memory can only hold just so much. Downloaded data has to be merged with server data to produce an active world. Do I like it? I could do without the lines and names. I think it detracts from the feeling of immersion. When you are not in a battle, all the info on-screen detracts from the feeling of immersion. That is why many players play with names turned off. So breaking immersion with a dotted line and a title seems very retro.
From what i've seen you have to get pretty darn close to zone for the blue dots to come into view the names I neither for or against if they change it or left a blank screen for all I care.
I felt the same about it being retro and kind of taking away from my immersion (ha) but I can think of times when I might prefer it, so it would be nice if the dotted lines could just be turned off via config or something. If not, I don't think it's a big deal as you only have to deal with it when you're zoning, but it would still be nice. There are loading zones in both seamless and delimited worlds. edit: it's for the best, and they won't change it to how 1.xx was /closethread
