The game is still in alpha stage so perhaps maybe they can change it a little. I'm thinking they can put up an invisible wall after 4 or 5 people have jumped on it or any other particular object that seems to be unfit for massive congregation. In doing so this will evidently add extra programming to be done so I'm not sure if the developers can prioritize for it amongst other things. For the most part, I think people will have fun with all the "jumping" around onto various platforms and personally its not much of a concern if people are enjoying themselves imo

Cant we just be happy after 10+ years of SE producing MMOs that they finally caught up with the rest of the world and we finally get something as basic as jump. Do we really need to tear it apart?

Hey devs, great job, thanks for finally giving us a jump command!

Apparently all you jump haters haven't played FFXIII-2 or Dissidia.

I've been an advocate of adding jump but that part, where they jumped up on the tent, was extremely dumb and broken looking.

    You're not alone.

Just be careful. The community these days does not approve someone disliking what they show.... funny to see how many are crying to get in alpha and beta... what will they do? just enter beta or alpha to say "wow everything is so cool" or "yeah great job, no issues with anything"?

    bah.

First of all, believability and realism fall within the same category... they both share roots in credulity. They go hand-in-hand. If something is "believable", it's because it would be "realistic" for it to happen. If something is "unrealistic", people won't "believe" it. People don't really believe a magician is making an elephant disappear, because it's not very realistic for that to happen. See where I'm going with this? Point is, whatever semantic nonsense you're attempting to pull here... it's not working.

But again.. as I said before, "realism" and "believability" for that matter, are selectively supported around here. So I fully expect the spin, self-contradicting logic, and selective reasoning to continue.

Boy are some of you folks gonna be pissed the first time you try jumping off a moderately high cliff and find you can't because Yoshi-P has decided it wouldn't be possible (which he has stated) to jump beyond a certain height or from certain locations.

I can't wait to see the selective arguments for "realism" popping up over that. I'm going to remind them that it's not "believable" that people would jump from a height that would likely injure them in a realistic situation. And, of course, in that case, "realism" will - again - be shunned as people say "well, it's a fantasy game, it doesn't have to be realistic! Just don't have us take damage!"

Some people around here are so predictably selective in their reasoning, it's like reading a script.
Somebody with a brain, willing to put across a proper argument on these forums is a rare sight. Keep fighting the good fight, I gave up that fight long ago. Sadly, in this respect, the minority are the ones most often heard, I think many people just keep quiet due to the massive amount of stupidity that can reside around here. It's a shame really. I'm sure we'd have some great ideas if we all put our heads together.

I'm not against the fact to "jump" but in certain conditions. I hate to see all the people in my screen who are jumping each 2sec for nothing and it was the case during the live letter so i stopped to watch it cause i wanted to discover and watch the game and not watch 100 fleas.

And for people who like to play "RP" i can understand what Majidah tries to explain.

For example i wouldn't see some people jumping on the moogle post balloon or on an etheryte.

Anyway why are you so sarcastic with this subject, for some of you it's normal to be able to jump everywhere, so accept the fact some people think the opposite without saying "go play ff11" or this kind of things.

@Majidah : don't imagine if people jump on the tent with their chocobos XD

Unfortunately its highly impractical to create cloth tearing system (the tearing isnt the bad part its the fact that it teared and now people have to see it lol).

Using invisible walls would conflict to believe-ability just like standing on the tent would (if say you found a place you could jump down onto the tent from it should be allowed).

I think adding slippery surface to the top of the tent would suffice. So if you are on top you slide off.

To add more then a "keep off" element you could make the animation look like a wobbly arms out balancing act as you try to get off of the top.

Tearing Tents / Sliding or rolling off the top tent > Strong tents > Invisible walls - though the priority of tents to walls is just my opinion since both are implausible in my mind lol.

Threads like this make me want to garotte someone. "Sure, let's all complain en masse about the jump feature we begged en masse to get, because it's not realistic enough for my expectations." Do you want them to cut the jump height in half, and make characters take fall damage based on the height of the fall? Should they trip if their foot catches while jumping? If they implemented even just half the crap that would make jumping "realistic" then everyone would complain again, because it would render every purpose of jump obsolete. I'm not sure how everyone else jumps IRL, but there's no way I could jump a 9 foot drop gracefully.
