Some ideas I don't see discussed

    Hi all.

Apologies for my first, and rather lengthy post. I have lurked the lodestone for a while.

Some ideas don't recall being discussed:

    Skillchains (w/ magic burst)

Limit breaks are an excellent addition, however, the info we have suggests this will take a long time to build up. I am aware of the "fine play" feature allowing quicker building, but I think that a skillchain system should also be added. This would encourage teamwork and add more depth to battle.

    Titles in name tag (optional)

In the very first v2.0 image titles are seen in the players name tag, as well as a (5 character) abbreviation of their LS. I noticed this was nowhere to be seen in any new v2.0 images/videos.

    Flying/Swimming

Another thing I've not seen anybody talk about, the actual possibility of proper flying mounts (not Ahriman). Along with swimming, this bothers me. Understandably corners have been cut in level design for areas we weren't supposed to see - for example there is just empty space behind rock faces. Another issue making this difficult is the removal of "seamless" areas - such as flying from area to area.

Boat making was mentioned by Tanaka (screenshot). Not sure how this would work or what would be the point as we can't control them, they would need to design an ocean to allow for sailing between cities.

Mountain/river (etc.) chocobos would be cool and could provide access to otherwise unaccessible places, they would be rare and need to be bred like in FFVII.

Now all this leads to my main idea, AIRSHIPS!
    • Players would see your LS airship in the sky, much like the garlean airships flying about in v1.0
    • The inside of the airship would be instanced for LS members.
    • Could be piloted by one person from a birds eye view.
    • Would be more expensive than housing and very rare.

    In game newspaper

    A vana'diel-tribune-type-in-game-newspaper
    • Contains in game lore updates/info about new NM's/events similar to lodestone - Was discontinued in XI, had cool music! Google it!
    • Can be read from housing (delivered in mail box when released) or purchased from NPC

    FFXI Friends list

Something I remember from when Tanaka was in charge, and most people seem to have forgotten. He mentioned that they were planning to implement some way of accessing/linking FFXI friends list in FFXIV. This would allow players (who quit XI) to reacquaint with old friends. The accounts are linked anyway so maybe this is possible.

Opinions please, I have some other ideas but will give this some time to digest.

I think the title thing will still be there, maybe they just did not bother with it for Alpha client.

All of these have been discussed at one point or another. They're just so scattered across these forums because of how they're structured + people not posting in the correct section. You can try the search function and find them though I'll bet

I think an in-game newspaper / lodestone is a really nice idea!

Flying mounts - Yeah, I'd bet the top of mountains are just empty space. That would probably be left for an expansion.

I don't know how I feel about flying. Swimming I can understand and I hope they are able to put that in at some point, but I don't know about player controlled flying. I always envisioned the Ahriman mount to be a ground mount that just hovered instead of actually having a Z-plane.

Y: for swimming it will be really hard to do so it may be where you can walk/float on top but can't dive.
This was from awhile ago, though.

All for the other stuff, but I don't see skill chains and magic burst working because Yoshi is aiming for a more active and twitch-based fighting style.

Skill chains and magic burst worked in FFXI because the downtime between using skills was actually fairly high.

I really like the reason behind asking for skillchains. I was kind of bummed out in ffxi when those became a thing of the past. Anything that can reinforce cooperation in your party is a plus in my book.

My only problem with the skill chain and BR system is that they slowed battles down to a crawl. Having to time and coordinate your attacks with the rest of the group makes it so that you just sit there auto-attacking for a while.

Now that you mention it I do remember, and maybe it wouldn't be so bad that way either. At the time I read it as he was talking about mounts specifically rather than characters.

I agree to some extent, but what is the point in party play if you're just doing your own thing? Once initial TP has been spent I imagine it would take a few ticks to regenerate - you won't just be constantly spamming TP moves like some kind of beat em up surely. Battles would lack strategy too.

It doesn't have to be the exact same as XI, there are other ways it could be achieved. Maybe you could select your SC partner so others abilities didn't interrupt it, or there was some on screen indication/window where you can trigger your skill for it to take effect, it could place some aura on the mob so that the mage would know to land the spell. Even combining spells would be a nice addition, or for example adding fire to archers arrows for a few moments.

Also, regarding the "down time", the extra damage/debuff/incapacitation from a SC could be worth waiting a few seconds for.
