I'd like to see the door lead to my own *personal house* honestly - like:

(For those who havent seen the movie, its Howl's Moving Castle and the door lets you turn the dial and walk through the door to different locations (top right - each color represents a different location and the needle is the current linked location))

Otherwise maybe just have a living quarters where its a bunch of bunkbeds and chests like a barracks.

    * (If you dont own a personal house then perhaps the FC has a basic room supplied to those who dont own a house - can maybe do some personalizing to the borrowed room but not on the cost or scale as a personal house)

The door linking would be specially useful if your FC is in a different zone then your personal hosue - just turn the dial and walk through. Could even make the zoning seamless (close door, turn dial, game: unload current zone but not your inside house, game: load FC zone, walk through (door closes), game: unload house (unless your computer can handle the extra memory in zone), never have to go through a loading screen).

The people who are jerks either wont get into good free companies or companies started by jerks won't get members.

@Shougan O_O I HOPE YOU'RE RIGHT ABOUT THAT!... that would be amazing =D

    1. Access controlled by FC leaders
    2. The need for all members to pay a portion of the cost for the purchase of the housing.
    3. Communal storage facilities

    My questions are:

    1. How much control will FC leaders have. This is my personal space I do not want interference.

    2. Can leaders kick me out on a whim. I do not want to spend a large amount of Gil to procure housing then all of a sudden lose it for whatever reason. How is my investment protected?

    3. Who will have access to the communal storage? Will it be like a Guild bank where once deposited it becomes community property or will our items be flagged for our use only?

These are some of the concerns that I have. Unless safeguards are implemented FC housing can become an area ripe for abuse. For all I know the Dev team has already addressed this but has yet to announce it so I will wait til I actually see it implemented in game but without these safeguards I will have absolutely nothing to do with FC Housing.

On a general note I am retired military with 24 years on active duty. A large part of that time was spent in a dormitory (barracks) setting. It is my personal observation that forced communal living under the control of others can strains the strongest of relationships. I sincerely hope that the Dev team will be working hard after release to implement individual housing.

These are my personal concerns. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. Also feel free to disagree with me but please respect my right to air my opinions and concerns.
    1. FC Leaders will have absolute authority I'm guessing. Just like with any other guild, they have the ability to remove you from the FC for whatever reason. I don't think they'll have access to your personal room though unless you give them access to. (if it's even an option)

    2. See #1, but there's nothing preventing you being kicked after you invest in the FC. Depending on how much money is required and what can be supplied, you may never have to spend a dime on expanding the FC though.

    3. I think this is where the access levels of the "bank" come into play. The FC leaders ultimately decide who have access to what.

I think this is really the important part. Remember, you can join a FC as a guest. I think I'd rather experience that environment for a while before investing anything into it. This goes the other way around too; the members of the FC are going to want to evaluate you and see if you're a fit for them or not.

What am thinking is something along the line of what LOTRO did with housing. You had your guild house, and your personal house... Anything you put in to personal was your to keep, anything you donated to the guild house belonged to the gild house... LOTRO is the only game i know that did this so it will be interesting to see what path SE takes....
To avoid the issues with being kicked out of an FC and being homeless with all your things on the street, I'm thinking you're going to be really limited in what you can do with your personal room. Maybe have access to your retainer and mail and that's all.

I will join a free company, but also hope to one day own my own house. Hopefully we will be able to expand our small house slowly over time as we can afford it, not have to buy a bigger one as needed. Also as long you you join a free company made up of your linkshell you should already know your leader and not have worries about them being a jerk or not, you will already know them and everything will be fine.

If what you are saying comes to pass I will have absolutely nothing to do with FC housing. I can accept these conditions in a normal Linkshell setting but not when it comes to my housing. The temptation for abuse of the system is too great for me to risk it.

If anyone reading has played LOTRO this sounds alot like their housing communites. Maybe they borrowed some of the idea from that game. I really enjoyed the housing there though it's probably cheaper than it will be in ARR.
Speaking from what I know about housing in lotro, a kinship(free company) house was paid for by one person, and they had control over all the options and permissions. They decide if you can put in and take out furniture, trophies, gold etc etc.
Even though it's a kins house one person still owns it. I dont' know if that helps but eh.

In terms of settling he means after the dust settles on FCs, but based on how uppity and unstable this community is..he's going to have his hands full with the FC version for a loooooooooong time xD.

I already commented about this on another thread but I'll add it here too. What I'm hoping for is that the large shared spaces are customizable by whoever has acces to it but have each of the personal room be only customizable by only the person living/sleeping in it.

I understand the concern about living in a FC house that is technically under the full control of the FC leader. Not to mention what will happen if someone gets kicked out of the free company(god I just want to call this a guild, so much shorter). What they could do, is perhaps find a way that all your items/furniture is stored safely away at some npc. For those members that are kicked out of their free company. Allowing for said person to pick it all up there and simply start anew with another free company.

Above idea is inspired from the npc that will keep our items that won't fit in our inventory in ARR.

For the issue of the shared rooms (ex: living room, guild hall,...), I'm afraid we're stuck with trusting your free company. I can see some issues with rearranging furniture though between the members. This will most likely be the community part that Yoshida is trying to strengthen. And is something the community will have to figure out.

A random idea for future FC, have an event each week to allow one member to stylize the house to their taste for the duration of one week. Or have a contest, where every member gets a shot to make their housing layout and have people vote on their favorite one. Could even make it top three and alter weekly from those three. Hopefully the community will work this out.
