Not to deter from the current conversation, but the price of personal housing/housing in general for me is extremely worrisome. I don't want to see guild HQ or personal houses be something extremely exclusionary as it sounds it is intended to be. Everyone should have access to an average quarters (my preference would have been instanced) and have room to expand upon it if you do in fact have the extra income.

I fear the cost and limited real estate will drive up demand for RMT purchasing, drama over grand company HR issues, hoarding over resources etc... I just don't see why it isn't something that is already a right to every player regardless of status or funds.

I do believe that they have stated that the FC housing would be sufficiently expensive that it'd take the income of various players to acquire one. I like that, you're actually buying a hugeass mansion wherein various people will live on, makes sense.
Also if memory serves me well in the previous live letter Yoshida mentioned that houses will be within instances (unlike say UO's houses), although each instance will have various houses within in so there is a type of neighborhood. Once that particular instance is full, a new, empty one is spawned for future houses.

What they could do, is perhaps find a way that all your items/furniture is stored safely away at some npc. For those members that are kicked out of their free company. Allowing for said person to pick it all up there and simply start anew with another free company.

Above idea is inspired from the npc that will keep our items that won't fit in our inventory in ARR.
That's certainly one way they can handle it if the NPC isn't designed for that one-time pickup of overflow from 1.0.

Fat Chocobo, Fat Chocobo please let him be a Fat Chocobo >.>

I really want to see the Howl's door implemented lol - I dont really care for working on multiple rooms at once and would rather just having my personal house connected to the FC.

Oh got another example the Room of Requirement in the Harry Potter series. :P lol

Yes the zone is instanced but there will be various plots in specific locations and sizes that must be filled before a new instance is created. This creates the problem of people fighting over prime real estate or having to wait for the zone to fill up before you can buy the plot you wanted. It also means that you may end up with bad neighbors. I'd have much preferred to have the instance be specific to only your house.

For the Grand Company housing, yes logically because it is so large and may be devided between many players to use that it would be extremely expensive to acquire. However, I can't help but feel this will alienate smaller groups of players, discourage casual players, or cause drama.
Cool or unique decorations, or specialized rooms (as the letter hinted) to add to an existing house/guild as a means of reward and gil sink is fine. But I don't believe the building and plot itself should be made so unobtainable for many players.

Well I understand your concern but the actual "prime" real estate is in fact virtual...Now i know it sounds like I am making light of you but I'm not. It being virtual allow for things that real world mechanics don't apply to. Supply and demand for "land" won't matter because if you buy a Mansion the system will allow it placement automatically just like a key item automatically gave you the ability to activate the special drops in AV or CC so the only plots will always be there.

Now if you are specifically referring to neighbors and or specific neighborhoods then yes I understand where your coming from and that would be a problem if your friend bought house 1 month before you so their instance is filled. But really the first come first served mentality is the fairest result here and would cause the least issues.

But if you talking about just your plot then land can be expanded virtually to allow you to fill in your plot because the instance already would have been planned and allow for the biggest allowance possible for every player in the instance. Now if the system is made under the lego formation that would infact place a limit on mansions if the instance is at mansion limit which is against the primary design philosophy where one character can do everything so either they would force a move to new neighborhood to accommodate the size of the house or move existing static structures which isn't fair or logical. So I am assuming that the designers are aware of that and choosing the first system.

The last possible alienation you would see would be if your house is the only small house on the block...which really is something that doesn't specifically effect you as a player. It would be an outward expression of how you didn't spend your gil but at the same time is another treadmill that you can jump on when ever you feel ready too since gil/craft level/achievements can be obtained at your own pace. Now things like events like Christmas/Cherry Blossom/Halloween where it is a one time thing until the event occurs if they have outward decorations that would be one instance but even then not somethign we aren't experiencing already with achievements.

I'm on a double crafter's salary, so I think I can afford a silly house.

I think its going to be easy later to get ones own house so a big house with a FC in will more then likely go to the last one to stay if everyone later on moves to their own place...but i'm looking forward to the whole thing anyway and willing to see how it pans out to begin with before we throw it under the bus with many question that the dev team will keep anyway to keep us wanting to know more

I have been screwed over too many times in XIV and XI... I won't put any cash towards a FC house, I'll just save it til we're allowed to buy our own houses whenever that day is e_e haha.

I have a post on my LS website right now dealing with this same issue... I'll have to wait a few days to get feedback but if i had to take a guess at price for FC small house as of 2.0 standards, 1mil-5mil is best case scenario..... Thats 10-50mil for you ppl stuck in 1.0 pre reduction. Quite honestly I'll agree with Xatsh on this 1... If you don't trust your LS / FC, why the hell are u in it?
