Generally nervous about this but I think a simple fix would be add Player Reputation to each account so people looking for dungeons can filter on reputation. Also, it will encourage players to behave.

What he said.... yep yepThere will always be greedy douche bags in every MMO and there will always be some way they find to exploit people in the name of Greed over Need. I can probably say with a good amount of certainty that most players have come to expect this from a MMO to a certain extent, it doesn't matter what the method is it's just how things tend to happen in MMO's.
Does it bug or infuriate people? Yes.
Is it completely avoidable? No.
Can you do anything about it? Not really besides never grouping with said person again, because SE has stated numerous times players can't "steal" what randomly falls to their loot list, and it's up to the individual to hand over said item if he/she chooses.
Best thing you can do in such a situation is not lose your temper, brush yourself off, and just say "Sorry guys, I'm not gonna go on if he's going to be a douchebag like this" and leave. It's doubtful that a GM would try to do anything unless he's being obscene, rude, harassing, or threatening, but if you feel obliged to call one remember to keep yourself calm and courteous because it's not hard for a GM to focus your attention on you when your being the hothead.
In either case, I welcome the ability to quickly group up and get things done, even if I never use it myself it's a nice feature to have on hand.
BTW I often play with random people I just meet somewhere. Almost never encounter any problems. Most people in FFXIV are respectful and helpful.

They exist with or without it yeah that goes without saying, but what the content finder does is give these types of players far more freedom for their ass hatery since you aren't on their server and with that you run into far more of them. But yeah, don't get me wrong I actually want the feature, but to me it's pretty much just choosing the lesser evil for the sake of finding a group faster. Like for example, I started tera day one and they had the content finder.
It was pretty sweet for a while but after the weeks passed players slowly started their whole elitism and just being downright asses, while I wasn't often a victim of that crap I sat(any time I'd argue I'd just get kicked if I wasn't lead) there and watched it many times where a newer player gets picked on for their gear, messing up in a fight they didn't know and they end up leaving.
Don't even get me started on getting queued with a full party cross server guild, I will just say 90% of those ended up in them jacking all the loot, or me getting kicked. While this happens on same server groups, it happens far less. So what I'm saying is, I know there are always douches, I mean it's the internet, but cross server content finder promotes it.
The new looting system will take care of "toxic" people on the Cross-server events. Use some kind of ticket if you want the item or save that ticket for another loot later on. I think it's fair enough since no one will be able to spam /random. The OP is exagerrating quite a bit and left out that the loot system is also changing which makes it really hard for a "toxic" player to get all items (he'll juste waste tickets)
This will blow your mind guys: people who purposely try to ruin your game experience at all costs are extremely rare.
The amount of times you're going to run into The Ultimate Douche is going to be so rare, that it shouldn't even be considered a counter point against cross-realm matchmaking services.
It's "extremely rare" the lower your game population is and barrier of entry. You clearly don't play many MMOs outside of mainstream ones (higher entry barrier.)

Lol at OP. worried about "jerks and asshattery" it would seem they dont see much of the forums...
It would be nice if they put in a system like the Tribunal and Honor systems they have in League of Legends. a little way to leave feedback after the content is completed. dont know how feasible it would be with an MMO and i'm sure it would take a dedicated team to just deal with the flux of reports. Something to think about maybe?

I see no issues with auto grouping at all it is good for the casuals. Now what pisses me off is what some mmos do to encourage it. Such as give more rewards, experience bonuses, stat buffs, and shorter cooldowns for using auto grouping.
In my opinion there should be no bonus at all for using the auto group (dungeon/content finder). The bonuses should all be for making your own partys WITHOUT using the finder.
FFXI had the strongest community in almost any mmo because you were required to rely on it, dungeon finder undermines that but it is required for the casual playerbase of today's mmos. There should still be a push for people to take the extra time to keep the server community alive. If easy mode is = or better, then there is no reason to not use autofinder which is a major issue in all current mainstream mmos. Community > Ease of play in mmos, it really is. SE needs to find a balance between the 2.
I don't know about feedback or long-term barriers. Just because someone was a douche in the past, does not mean that they can't reform and should be permanently blocked from content.
I think adding minor inconveniences to being a douche are enough, like a 45 minute time-out if you get kicked or leave, or only having 1-2 kick votes per party. Combine this with the new 'Need' loot rules that we'll have and I think you're going to have a very solid matchmaking system.

You're implying final fantasy mmorpgs attract douchebags ? Because as both you and me are players of a non-mainstream mmorpg i find you're generalizing too much
