I love the cross servers dungeon finders! i cant wait to see xiv's in action. i was always one of the ones in XI that got tired of waiting for shouts or something to do and logged out.

its nice to see that is no longer an option!

You've also got to consider that FFXIV is still very community based. Even if "ass-hatery" takes places it only takes a few runs before your name starts to spread.

Another case of "It could happen, therefore it happens 90% of the time." Moving along.

I don't know what to say. In the final weeks of FFXIV 1.0, it took me two weeks to find groups and complete 3 GC quests. Everyone was busy with Garuda Hard, Moogle, or To Kill A Raven. I got more groups started out of sympathy from high-level players who'd see me shouting in Ul'Dah for an hour than from my LSes or other friends.

Was shouting in Ul'Dah for an hour fun? Not really, no.

Instead of pursuing White Ravens (or elemental gear that I would have needed to get White Ravens), once I finished Raven Easy, I went back and tried to help other players get through the GC questline. Because if I didn't, who would? It wasn't like I was going to afford the 21 mill a certain LS was asking for White Raven runs, anyways.

    Really, being a latecomer sucks.

While I have used cross server grouping in WoW and hated it with the fiery heat of a thousand white hot suns I will reserve judgement on FFXIV's system until I actually get to see it in action. Implementation is everything...

Personally, I found my play experience on WoW was improved by the dungeon queue. It's true that I did run into several toxic players through it (mostly paladins who thought my resto druid should be able to flash heal for some bizarre reason), but it's hard to appropriately emphasize the value of experiencing "dated content". Being able to play through that content more than made up for the occasional jerk.

I can only hope that the re-launch will bring enough players in that player toxicity is a greater problem than having to shout in Ul'Dah for an hour at a time. Toxicity is a first-world problem: it means you're actually grouping with people for questing, those people are just being jerks.

If toxicity does become a problem, I would hope the devs look at League of Legends' Tribunal system, which records player chat logs and allows the community to flag consistently toxic players, with rewards for players who participate effectively. Riot Games has been extremely pleased by the results from the Tribunal. It seems that even in a purely competitive game like LoL there is a vast, overwhelming majority of players who just want to have fun and want others' to have fun, free from harassment and toxic behavior. Is harassment and toxicity gone? No. But it is much, much improved.

The Final Fantasy online games for the most part don't have alot of those clowns except when FFXI launched on the PS2 and later on the 360 we had an influx of them.but most didn't stay long.FFXIV will probably get the same on the PS3 release and alot of those whiners will leave after the 30 days free are up so i'm not worried!

Actually never noticed any of that with the PS2, since the game was originally developed and available for the PS2 before the PC. When there was the influx of any large number of players unfamiliar with the game into FFXI it happened. When the American PC version came out it happened, American PS2 again, EU/(CoP or ToAU can't remember) again, 360 yet again... And with the release of ARR it's quite logical to assume it would happen again, not simply because PS3 but because of the large number of new subscribers on PC or PS3 with a (re)launch as is true for all online games.

It's kind of hard to justify how cross-server Content Finder is bad for a game cause with that type of mechanic if it's 'bad for you' all u have to do is not use it and play the game as if it wasn't even there. Because it would be hard to prove how it would be bad for the product as a whole since it doesn't allow/disallow anyone any access to any facet of the game. It just leaves the possibility of finding something you want done and aren't finding enough local support for in comparison to the time you have available to seek for it. For example, back when ToAU FFXI and ppl who were behind on CoP spending months /sh'ing prolly would think this would have been a wonderful addition.

The only down-side I see to cross-server Content Finder is that when people want to do something they got behind on even less people than in 1.0 will be willing to help and just tell em to 'go do it through Content Finder" instead of spending the 10-30 minutes the person needs assistance on actually helping them. I was also one of those people that would help ppl just because i felt sorry for em for trying so hard and /sh'ing for so long in 1.0 and everyone would ignore them for hours, when the content took up so little time if u actually helped them.

There's a reality of this negative image in 1.0 that alot of late additional players to the game felt unless they were lucky and were picked up into an active social LS, and SE doesn't want that to happen in ARR.

What it does do is already have a system in place for cross-server PVP tournaments so that they can occur whenever the devs feel like instead of rare in-person LAN parties like they had to do for FFXI.
