A white mage will always be better than lugging items around. Plus WHM has shell/protect and other abilities that items would not be as effective or cumbersome to work with. But as I said before, if you're in a party where whm isn't part of it, it would be nice to be able to solo or have a small party without the absolute need for a WHM, or if you're in a boss battle and the WHM goes down, to have other party members be able to throw some potions/phoenix downs to get people back up and running.

As a BLM, I feel my biggest concerns were not being able to raise party members, or running out of MP and becoming useless. If the WHM went down, I'd be dead in the water with no way to cure myself or use my magic. Having a few more options available in battle through the use of items would make the game play a bit more dynamic, in my opinion.

The company-issue tonics were U/U so you could only carry one.

@Felis: If they are available through the GC, were they easily obtainable, or were they rather expensive? I'd assume with a small fortune you should be able to keep a dozen or so phoenix downs and hi-potions on hand for battle purposes.
Check for those names in Mooglebox: Hi-Potion, Mega Potion, Ether, they are there. We don't have the Remedy item itself but we have various different remedies for certain statuses in particular. Even Golden Needles.
I do know that while levelling, at least, I had extensive usage of Hi-Potions and Ethers with my Gladiator and Thaumaturge, then again i'm an Alchemist myself so I had a stockpile of those.

And let's not forget the Elixir. Nael Van Darnus, first stage of the fight, Paladin goes down, Dragoon has all the aggro. What do I use to tank Nael for he party to finish killing it? Why, of course, Dread Spikes, Second Wind and Elixir. God that Elixir, I love it.

Offline FF games depend a LOT on potions you healed yourself and your party with them ...i found it odd that i couldn't do it in FFXI when i started playing it lol SE needs to give them more importance with no cooldowns.
Also i hate in FF14 how you can't cure yourself if you are locked on a mob for the auto-attack to work ...wtf is that?

Are you sure about this? Because that sounds like command queueing from back then where we still have stamina bar

    Lets see....

All FF series have potions, which are useful.
All FF series have mages, which can cure, and are useful.

So why does it the MMO's cant get it right when it clearly works?
