I can't say I disliked it, I just didn't play it enough to get any attachments to the songs. They seemed pretty cool though. I have a friend who adored it even though the game was a bit pants.

XIII did have a great soundtrack. The Final Fantasy community fiercely clings to Uematsu — and with good reason, don't get me wrong — at the expense of the other composers who have worked on the series. All things considered, Hamauzu (who did all of XIII, as well as a lot of great tracks from X) is a better composer than Uematsu: texturally, harmonically, and structurally, he's a lot more sophisticated than Uematsu. But Uematsu writes stronger and more accessible melodies, and melodies are easier to latch on to for most people.

Favorite FF song eh? That's a hard thing to choose. But I'll pick one with and one without vocals.

    Without vocals:

    - Wandering Flames: FFX
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxRd_5ERYKw
The music is so soothing and sad at the same time. I always picture my character dieing heriocally to this tune like Louisoix.

    With Vocals:

    - Distant worlds: FFXI

End theme of CoP. This one is my favorite not only because of the tune but because it marked the end of a long adventure with my static party. It's a feeling that is hard to describe. It's basically the same when you end a rpg and are left with a certain feeling of emptiness and satisfaction. But only deeper because, I played the role of my character and so did other people.

Exactly. Don't get me wrong, Uematsu is amazing , but things do seem to get a bit more 'bland' and repetitive after a while. Hamauzu really does seem a lot more 'next gen' with his music and seems to offer more. Also, I love that the new soundtracks have a lot more vocals in them... they keep my attention more. Some new characters' theme songs are lyrical too, just offers a lot more depth in my opinion.

It would be really good without Susan Calloway. Technically, I guess the song itself is fairly simple. It's just some harp and Gregorian chanters and whatnot. Compared to some of the other tracks on FFXIV, it's pretty simplistic, and compared to other tracks from the franchise like liberi fatali, it's probably not as good, but I think the lyrics and the relevance to the FFXIV world make it a good song regardless. It's the defining theme for FFXIV in many ways. It's interesting how they use three difference voices (the two Susan Calloways and the Gregorian chanters) where each one represents a different perspective.

I have. I actually got to hear that in concert and it made me cry the entire song, it's just..so beautiful a piece. It was a horrible tease though, their timing made me think they were going to release a final fantasy VI game, or maybe a movie. But unfortunately, I always get disappointment on that front.
I would love a followup to that game.

If you try to fail and succeed, which have you done?

I didn't realise that it was Susan Calloway until I'd listened to it religiously for a week, so my opinion on it was completely unbiased in that sense. I love it, I wouldn't change anything about.
