In your goal to bash elitists, you ignore that the majority of players really do understand when real life issues arise while we're all in-game. For every person that would bitch you out for need to afk, there are probably 100 players that would have ZERO issues with you doing so because we've all been there. Timers have nothing to do with this specific issue other than your personal problem being made into everyone's problem. Even though this is game that doesn't mean the time we put into it isn't important or can't be important to us.

Basically if you're considerate, no one is going to bitch you out.

However with timers, there's less room for people to be considerate because the game is telling you that you only have so much time left until you lose. People are considerate enough to wait but game timers are not.
