True. Remember Rokien, just like anything such as games, music, movies, tv,etc. Square-Enix isn't FORCING some system upon people they are merely giving the people what the people requested. It is the population that is to blame for Square Moving to a western style MMO model. Square has to adapt in order to make sales, plain and simple.
And yes, FFXI should have been the core. It was a great game that was plagued by some flaws such as the inability to solo any content, or level on your own, coupled with the long time it sometimes took to form a party. Some of the menus were overly complex and the battle system, even though I like it, was seen as boring. But overall the core of the game was really solid and it provided a unique atmosphere and offline-style control scheme and feel that I have not seen in any other MMO since.
XIV focused way too hard on making good "graphics". As a result we wound up with awesome looking character models but bland copy-paste landscapes that never change through 50 levels of play. Hopefully 2.0 will be a nice blend of XI style with some basic necessities of modern MMOs (for example, not being able to change graphic settings in game is just silly).

Problem is if FFXI was the model all that would have done was steal away from the FFXI player base and cause them to have to shut down their other cash cow. Also not as many people would be interested, FFXI was amazing amongst a fairly small group of people compared to other games. They needed to go with a model that would draw massive amounts of people not just a few thousand. Personally I would've loved an XI 2.0 or something of the sorts but the company needs a big success after the big failure and they are definitely going in the right direction by following the trend. As long as they don't go overboard and try to be a clone and from what I have seen that is not the case so FFXIV: ARR will be a pretty big success I believe.True. Do you like the UI, the lag, the market wards, the cut and paste scenery, the constant game crashes? Maybe you like the low population, cuz most people realize what a badly designed game this is and don't play it.
All of this didn't need a complete redesign of things that even worked lol. For example the server issues could have been taken care of eventually as they said. Much like instead of just a huge patch, they decided to rebrand the game (2.0) and try to recapture people, that is the main purpose of ARR...not to simply fix issues that could be fixed in normal development, but to basically get new people.
You never played a FF game then. FFXI was damn near FFIII's successor.

How long has this game been out? I think they've had more than enough time to fix the "glaring" issues. If they had scrapped their silly UI (and server authentication crap), added an AH, and a /JUMP command (lol) within 3 months of release, they wouldn't have lost all the customers they did.
They didn't even bother to try to fix it. They thew out anything having to do with 1.0 and jumped on the redesign as soon as Tanaka was gone. How long has this game been out? First they could not resolve the server issues so thats wrong. Also FF 11 was nothing like 3 i beat that game so many times 11 never felt like that, only FF 3 and 11 have in common is the job system. All of this didn't need a complete redesign of things that even worked lol. Also the ppl trying to say you stand around all day doing nothing when looking for a pt is stupid cause unlike XI you don't need to depend on ppl to get xp, took the xi dev team like 8 years to raise the exp for EP/DC mobs cause then FINALLY REALIZED AFTER 8 FUCKING YEARS MOST CLASSES CANT SOLO AN DC MOB.
First they could, as it's the hardware and software they stated they could have replaced. This didn't require a relaunch of XIV.
I bet you only played the DS version. Also FF 11 was nothing like 3 i beat that game so many times 11 never felt like that, only FF 3 and 11 have in common is the job system.
You clearly don't play XIV because all people do is stand around even when someone is shouting for help with stuff, also most people get powerleveled, you know, depending on someone? Also the ppl trying to say you stand around all day doing nothing when looking for a pt is stupid cause unlike XI you don't need to depend on ppl to get xp
Same dev team. Also since you're telling other people they're wrong, let me tell you that you're wrong, they raised the DC+ monster exp for the purpose of speeding up the leveling process outside of abyssea since soloing a monster has NOTHING to do with it's exp base lol, being unable to solo a DC mob has to deal with balance, not the exp. How the fuck did you even come to that conclusion?took the xi dev team like 8 years to raise the exp for EP/DC mobs cause then FINALLY REALIZED AFTER 8 FUCKING YEARS MOST CLASSES CANT SOLO AN DC MOB.
