well the best example for teirs would be Proto Ultima. blms would start of spamming teir 1 and gradually increase till the 2 ninja tanks gain alot of hate that we could use teir for.

While I see tactical advantage for different tier spells, my biggest gripe against removing tiers was that visual differentiation became impossible (since tactically I can adapt, but visually it was a complete loss).
So yeh.. lol
Perhaps they can keep the same spell for all tiers. IE (Thunder for I-IV) as you cast the bar will hit checkpoints representing each tier, the point where you stop is the spell you cast. (So longer channels = higher cost, better visual, more damage)

Each tier unlocked after leveling so far.

Makes perfect sense that a spell cast by a veteran wizard will be much more grand than one cast by a novice.

They need to make AM work just like in XI and make the animation more eye popping like in XI.
btw fire nukes animation in XI was very great.

I'm fairly certain that one of the major reasons they decided to take away tiered spells was (apart from having a more simple system) to fit into the 15 actions 10 traits formula that they came up with. I never agreed with limiting the actions of every class to the same number but given that they only had 3 action bars to work with, I was able to put that disappointment aside. However, in ARR, there won't be the same arbitrary limit to actions so I don't see how it could hurt to have tiered spells again.
The spells are still tiered. Sticking a number on the end of spell isn't what makes it a tier. -ra -aga -ara are also tiers.
But yeah, I agree with the OP that it'd be cool if the animations got better with level.
I'm to tired/waking up to read threw this all, but I think before worrying about tiered spells, we need to worry about getting all the Elements back. Wheres water? (And astral/umbral, if we'll have those again)
