I really think that the home city change will only affect new players. Probably because of the whole new quest system and unlocking the armory and such. There is no point in doing stuff to old players.
I am kinda hoping that my character (Davorok) gets dropped out in the middle of who-knows-where and I have only my Chocobo and Goobue to find my way back home.
