It was said a long, long time ago (and I can't really be bothered to dig through posts to find the link) that with the ColorID system, they're shooting for allowing players to dye any gear (that can be dyed) up to 28 or 32 colors I think it was.
I would really love to see at least 10+ options at launch for dye and all gear dyeable to all colors available (besides AF). It really sucks seeing people wearing the exact same thing.
Can an SE rep confirm this? I do seem to remember something along these lines being mentioned ages ago, but now that the system is more than likely completed, it would be nice to have a firm yes or no.
It was certainly Yoshida's intent...

Unfortunately, that post doesn't answer my question, it only confirms what we already know about dyeing in 2.0.It was certainly Yoshida's intent...

This is it. I remember that post too and it was a LOOOOOONG time ago.
Pretty much the only thing stopping you from making purple armor now is how the game handles colors as entirely different pieces of gear. Once colors become essentially Armor X with Color applied, it's just adding an easy pallet swap for each piece that takes like 0 time at all/ can most likely be automated.
