    Gear Dyeing in 2.0

I have a simple question that should probably be answered by an SE rep. We know that gear dyeing is changing slightly in 2.0 in that we can change a particular piece's color no matter what color it is currently, and that the item name will remain the same even though the gear itself changes color. But are we going to able to change any piece of gear to any color of dye? For example, right now I can dye my cobalt cuirass red or blue, but in 2.0 will I be able to dye my cobalt cuirass purple if I want to?

Some of what you are looking for is answered in this:

    Gear Dyeing
Players will be able to dye gear multiple times.
Gear colors will no longer be included in item names, and gear with different colors will display the same item name.

    Current FFXIV: ARR
    Woolen Turban (Purple)
    Woolen Turban (Red)
    Woolen Turban (Green)
    → Woolen Turban

    * Under these guidelines, a woolen turban (purple) in a player’s inventory will be automatically renamed a woolen turban.

Gear color will be indicated by icons as follows:

    CURRENT

Heavy Darksteel Gauntlets Heavy Darksteel Gauntlets (White) Heavy Darksteel Gauntlets (Red) Heavy Darksteel Gauntlets (Green) Heavy Darksteel Gauntlets (Blue)

    FFXIV: ARR

Heavy Darksteel Gauntlets Heavy Darksteel Gauntlets Heavy Darksteel Gauntlets Heavy Darksteel Gauntlets Heavy Darksteel Gauntlets

Aside from color, special attributes included in item names will not be changed.

While I dont have it on hand I am confident that I remember a rep/dev post talking about a larger selection of colors being available and that you may change colors on items that colors have already been modified. I believe one may be found in the live Q/A video, and a rep on our forums talked about it once before.

Think what she was asking is: Will the armors still be tied down to being of only a select few colours or will all gear that's dye-able be able to be dyed all colours. The example she gave was Cobalt Cuiras, which can only be dyed red or blue atm, dyeing it purple. I'd love to see a better dye colour pallet for my gear, example more black robes for my blm.

Yep, I had all the information from that post in front of me. I don't remember anything about dyeing gear any color in the live letter though. I even watched it twice.

In regards to dyeing HQ gear and materia-melded gear, dyeing these items will have no adverse affect on their stats. If you dye a +3 gear item, you’ll produce the same +3 gear but in a different color. If you dye gear with materia melded to it, you will have the same gear with the same materia but in a different color.

To dye equipment, simply select the materials and the desired dye from the synthesis menu. Once you begin synthesizing, the synthesis process will be skipped, and dyeing will succeed 100% of the time.

Regarding player requests to have NPCs handle dyeing equipment, we plan on allowing NPCs to dye equipment basic colors and crafters to dye equipment rare colors in version 2.0.

Swear there is a more recent post on dyes though. Maybe in the megaton Reinheart thread lol

None of those actually answers the question at hand though. That being, can any gear be dyed any colour; something that has, as far as I know, yet to be definitively answered.

Dyes themselves are fairly limited. My hope is that as long as we have the desired color in dye form, we can dye any armor that color regardless of the limitations of 1.0.
