Indeed. Unfortunately, for some people in this thread, common sense escapes them.
I thought we were supposed to avoid logical fallacies . First off there is no such thing as common sense. Secondly having one's identity stolen in a game is as likely as any other place where one has to give their name and credit card. Lastly just because it can happen is not a good enough reason; between the years of 2008 and 2010 only 5% of Americans were victims of identity theft(this includes all forms). yeah 5% a really small number.

This a great example of argumentum ad hominem. Instead of addressing the fact that only a miniscule number of people suffer from identity theft 5%, and out of that 5% only 23% suffer out of pocket expenses you decide to make an appeal to emotion; thus sidestepping the argument entirely. The fact is identity theft is a red herring in the argument about Real Id. This does not mean that I amt discrediting their pain. I have suffered from identity theft once and I had to take a whole day off work to deal with it; it also took one whole week to get back my money.

So just because it's a small percentage means we should give even more reasons to lift that number higher?

311 million people give or take in America (Let's not worry about the rest of the world for right now.)
Leaves us with 15.5 million who get caught up in Identity theft.
Leaves us with 3.5 Million who suffer expenses from it.

Out of the 311 million people living in America a small percentage can make a big difference in alot of lives. I guess we wouldn't have to worry if we bumped up the crime rate due to this either eh? You know because it's only a small percentage.

Wether you like it or not RealID system has failed terribly before it was even implemented, Blizzard didn't "Buckle" under pressure they realized it was a terrible idea in the first place after their own staff felt the brunt of the possible consequences of such a bone-headed move.

No, it's not. You must be thinking of something else because this is an ad hominem.

Also, his argument about identity theft is not a red herring since it is actually relevant to the topic.

You are right ad hominem is the incorrect one; it is the logical fallacy of correlation proves causation, and appeal to probability. It is a red herring in that identity theft happens to such a small amount of people (5%), and most of that happens through hacking customer databases not from someone using their real name online in a forum. Real Id only works though if it is universally applied.
