Exactly, but why make it easy for them online to the point where they could easily screw with you offline as well?

Sorry, but I still completely disagree with your position on forcing people to disclose their personal information for all to see when they register with an online community. It's unethical and it's just plain silly.

When it comes to cyberbullies, this is when the moderation team, or GM staff, need to get involved and take care of the issue accordingly. If they're too lazy or incompetent to do so, then it's time to seek greener pastures.

I've read that the GMs in FFXI and FFXIV are the same, so perhaps they are too spread out now. Or some powers revoked. Just know you can report a series MPK issues in FFXIV and they wont even come to check it out.
On XIV a RMT party tried to MPK mine for a whole 3 hours in Copperbell, called GM, they eventually de-spawned (I suppose jail? Or they all d/c'd one after another ). As for harassment in general, just report it to GMs, that has to be the easiest thing they can check, it revolves only about checking what was said in the chat... (And I suppose that like in all MMOs, GM can read everything, well I hope they can.)

How the hell is it unethical; every other area in ones life one is required to reveal their identity. Also you missed my point entirely; just because it can happen does not mean it will.

Design the game better, simple. And OBVIOUSLY nbdy should have to disclose personal information in a video game.. common sense ftw. If we wanted a game like real life, we'd all go outside wearing capes.. ppl play games to escape reality, not tack it on.

Who said I dont go to work with my bathrobe and cape on? I'm an important man and I need to stand out.

I would like to see a replay system for FFXIV though, one you can start yourself and then one that starts automatically after a GM call. So you can record an MPK and then submit it into the GM box.

Could also mean they would be able to create a cinema mode where players could slightly modify replays later for player videos. Just need to make a replay marked "gm" able and as soon as it has been modified uncheck it as reliable material.

(The file would be a .txt like file that is held on the server so it would take minimal room - like server side held macros). It has to be server side otherwise programmers might be able to use it to figure out some of the server engine structure and make their own servers.

    Don't beat up on bullying!

Bullying is responsible - in no small part - for one of the most memorable posts on the forums.

I cry laughing every time I read that.

Unintentional humor is some of the best~

Yes, but not to the general public at every turn.

Indeed. Unfortunately, for some people in this thread, common sense escapes them.

I thought we were supposed to avoid logical fallacies . First off there is no such thing as common sense. Secondly having one's identity stolen in a game is as likely as any other place where one has to give their name and credit card. Lastly just because it can happen is not a good enough reason; between the years of 2008 and 2010 only 5% of Americans were victims of identity theft(this includes all forms). yeah 5% a really small number.
