I just hope some content will be relevant more than 3 months at a time. I didn't play FFXI endgame much, but it sounds frustrating to have had LV75 gear for 5 years then everything made obsolete in a short period of time within the level cap being raised.
Nah not frustrating at all ..it was awesome and ppl seem to forget very fast that this massive change in FF11 came from Yoshi-P he likes armor with big flashy stats and i'm all for it forget about Tanaka's bland +1DEX chainmails good for nothing stuff those were sweet tears from elitist QQers everyone enjoyed abyssea saying otherwise is lying to yourself and being mainstream

I was so excited a while back about changes but I'm getting more and more depressed lately with this like WoW garbage. Starting to look like the somewhat unique style is getting tossed for a generic dumbed down cookie cutter game.

RNG is not unique, or style (neither is a token system). Perhaps you are referring to other systems and just putting your post here.

But changing loot distribution systems has little to do with being unique, it has to do with being fun and fair (this doesnt mean easy - huge misconception people have). Both are used in WoW and FFXIV currently. Though in my opinion the RNG is the worst convinced solution for most problems.

    Sounds like ZNM's to me..

Whatever Yoshi, just make it hard. We like hard mode.

I support this system. As long as there are also drops.
It ensures that if you continue to grind content you will eventually get drops.

People need to stop bitching saying it's easy mode. There is nothing hard about doing 200 AVs to get your gear, it's just grindy. It doesn't make you a badass, it means your time isn't very valuable and Square Enix doesn't think so either.

Having drops ... drop, and give totems that guarantee loot eventually is a fantastic way to give out gear. Look at Garuda, it's got drops like ifrit, but it guarantees you get a drop after 20 runs. What in the hell is wrong with that?

Do you people forget how much complaining there was about being 0/50 on ifrit runs for drops?
I think you should be able to get 1 piece of gear every 5 to 10 runs depending on content and difficulty and quality of armor. I see nothing wrong with a body piece taking 15 runs, and a shield taking 10, rings taking 5 runs, etc. You still spend 50something runs on loot, but at least you see gradual progression towards your lewt.

But anyway, this is something the majority of players will enjoy, if you are going to waste time on the game you should be able to see some measure of progress instead of 3 hours of content with nothing whatsoever to show for it for any person in the entire group
You're maths a little off there pal lol. Wow came out in late 2004 and they're currently on tier 15, and that's not including the tons of dungeon sets. As for it being something people will enjoy I have three words for you: Final Fantasy XI

It was a great game, people loved it, and they didn't use this system. Most people interested in XIV are XI players from the past.

Oh noez i see an exp bar and a mini map on my screen, must be like WoW. WoW didn't really create as much as it made renovation to preexisting systems. And while it may not be everyone's favorite game they obviously did enough right that even with a subscription they reached millions of players.

SE wouldnt be wise to try and make another WoW as WoW is WoW - and is still alive. However, there are tips they can take (That WoW has taken from other mmo's :P, also can look at other big mmo's for what they do well/not. Like GW2 has a better sense of working together, no bitching who gets the first or last hit).

I hope they make ideas their own as well though, like when they do token systems perhaps they can blend it into the game in a less obvious way - like crafting material drops and such that are a more natural sense of getting items.
I'd like to remind you that wow clones never work.

He's not saying it should be a WoW clone. He's saying it's not a bad thing to adapt good ideas from other MMOs to XIV. FFXIV tried too hard to be different at its initial launch, which was part of its failing. There are also a lot of other features that set XIV apart from other MMOs, namely being able to switch not only from job to job, but between job and class. I hope they give us more uses for the classes, though, because the class-only gear looks nice.

I don't thing borrowing ideas is bad either I just don't like this one. I would have rather them copied XI's system than WoW's system here, but I'll wait and see how it turn out to decide if I really hate it or not. I just don't like the sound of it so far is all.
