It's not a WoW clone. It still has Final Fantasy type characters, story and chobobos. They are just taking good things from other mmos like UI, dungeon system, gear system, instances, raid finder, pvp areas ect that make those games successful and popular.
All the Final Fantasy flavor story and stuff is still there. Its not like they put Blood Elvs, Orcs, and Draenei in this game.
Its ok to take system elements from other games that work well.
by everyone's logic FFXI was a WoW clone game set and match o.O? If you don't like it don't play simple as that... your just gonna go off and play a WoW clone anyways and then cry about that game o_o
"Thy life is a river to bear rapture and sorrow
To listen to suffer to entrust until tomorrow
In one fleeting moment, from the land doth life flow
Yet in one fleeting moment for the new leaf doth grow"
Meh. Not a fan of the tiered loot idea or the WoW system of making gear obsolete in 6 months. There are other effective incentives to keep players playing: quests to access to new areas, epic storyline, great community are just a few.
As much as people hate the FFXI comparison, there's no getting around it because a good portion of FFXIV's players are from FFXI. Chains of Promathia was hands down the most memorable expension for everyone I know...what was the reward at the end of all of those pain in the ass fights? A ring and access to sea. It was a really great ring...but it was a ring. Yeah, there was the potential for more gear associated with access to sea, but no one knew any of that until after the fact. The storyline was epic and it drew people in. There was no skipping a CoP CS! You yelled at your friends for TALKING during them, it would have even been inconcievable to SKIP it.
What I'm saying here is that I'm going to be very disappointed if we're going in the direction it appears we're going. I'm excited for 2.0 and most of the changes...but changes like this and the prospect of constantly raiding to upgrade the gear I just got puts me off bigtime and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
it should be fairly easy to fix. I did like FFXI because when new content released new gear, it didnt' really obsolete old gear. it was just another option.
Much like Dark/Demon souls there was no really best armor. just better armor for certain situations. As a PLD main I generally carried 3 sets of armor. magic tanking set, phys tanking set, haste set. and swapped pieces in and out for w/e we were fighting. in general the haste set was the most useful.
If they aren't replacing entire gear sets at a time i think it will work well. IE: new content releases new body armor only. or new materia only. right now we have primals = weapons and dungeons = armor. and each dungeon doesn't have a full gear set. it's spread out across multiple dungeons. if they are releasing new content every 3-6 months. and 'obsoleting' only part of your gear set i think that is far more tolerable for the masses.
They also hinted at challenging solo content for epic gear. I'd rather see this as materia though.
Personally I'd love to see Primals = weapons(Including shields). Dungeons = armor. solo = materia.
In this fashion we are getting new gear/goals to work towards. but we aren't replacing everything all at once. that shiny Garuda weapon I got will be good for at least a year, because they will likely release a new dungeon/solo content before a new primal where i would get a new weapon.
Token system != replacing your loot all the time. While WoW does have both, those are separate ideas and do not have to be taken hand in hand.
Dont hate a system for what the system doesn't even provide lol.
(Dark souls is fun XD, lightning is OP though ^_^)

That only works once. Actually such content is probably the worse for DEVs. It takes a lot of time to make and players only clear it once. (Or couple times more when helping.) But it's not like you will log on and say "How I feel like redoing the quest to get access to [area_name]".
>Great community
That's not "an effective incentive". Not like SE can create that or help that... You can make a good game and have a bad community around it :s
Extreme shortcut there. WoW is getting old, it's only natural for a game of this age to start seeing the subscriber curve going down. A single system isn't entirely responsible for the loss of 3 millions subscribers. It's way more complicated than that. I'm sure that even Blizzard doesn't have all necessary keys to explain this fall (no one does).WoW lost 3 mil subs in the last 3 years over this system eventually creating a soul-less game that everyone behaves their worst in.
Antipika.
