It just seems needlessly complex. I read through this thread and the old one and I cannot find a valid reason for SE to spend resources on this claptrap.

Wanting to control your appearance so that your character is not an eyesore to you and others around you is not a valid reason? Individualized looks on the field instead of being part of an army of characters that looks exactly the same is not a valid reason? Roundabouts to imminent fugly gear is not a valid reason? There's plenty in terms of justification for gving players control over their characters' appearance. It gives people something else to strive for, helps keep content relevant and adds a dimension of enjoyment to playing.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
-The assertation that everyone looks the same is false. Sure there are similarities but isn't that more of a playerbase problem? There are a lot of options that you can choose for your gear and the materia system allows you to customize gear to your needs. Sure materia has its own problems but fixing/streamlining materia would be a far better, less loony fix. I would much prefer to see quests that would allow us to open new materia slots in gear we like the look of so that it would be beneficial in battle.Wanting to control your appearance so that your character is not an eyesore to you and others around you is not a valid reason? -If the gear is an eyesore do not use it maybe? Maybe strive to get the crafts you need to turn a hat you like the look of into an epic epeen machine?
-"Roundabouts to imminent fugly gear is not a valid reason?" I do not understand what you mean here.
-Enjoyment? maybe. I don't really see that i guess. Wacky? definitely.

Playing a black mage, you only have really 3 options for good body pieces.-The assertation that everyone looks the same is false. Militia robe, Ul'dah GC jacket, or Limsa Storm Sergeant Jacket. Out of, I don't know how many people play black mage, but 3 options isn't alot.
I can't imagine why anyone would say this unless XI was the only MMO you've played in the last 10 years. There's nothing complex about it. It is literally an industry standard.
People need to lay off this logic. If it's "such an industry standard"..why play FFXIV? You do realize "Industry Standard" is just a fancy way of saying "MMO B is a replica of MMO A"...right? Why do you think most MMOs you can download and play for free are all pretty much the same thing? Not because of "Industry standards" lol.
If someone doesn't like something it's not because "you only played 1 MMO", its because someone doesn't like something. Adding vanity slots is realistically a waste when XIV needs much more than just allowing mages to look like ..anything but a mage.
But hey, long as they add the ability to overwrite someone's vanity options by forcing their real display, all is well. You could look like a reject warrior with a mage hat if you want, long as its an optional display for other clients.
