    Purpose of Currency Redenomination
When the current version of FFXIV was first designed, we were forced to inflate item prices to properly balance the prices for consumable items, such as arrows and fishing lures.* This is no longer necessary, as this type of consumable item will not be used in FFXIV: ARR.

*1 The price of one arrow was originally indexed against the cost of one sword at a rate of 1 to 1000. For example, if a gladius were priced at 200 gil, the equivalent level warped arrows would be priced at 0.2 gil each. However, because decimal pricing is not possible, prices would have to be rounded to the nearest whole number, rendering it comparatively expensive to be an archer. This problem was addressed by increasing all item prices by a factor of ten.

That said, this currency redenomination is primarily intended to reduce the excessively large values used in all transactions. We would like to reiterate that the effective purchasing power of your savings will not be reduced.
I find this most interesting. I find it hard to believe that a fisher or archer used 1,000 lures or arrows in the time it takes for a warrior to go from one sword to the next, then again who really knows. I never would have thought an index of 1 to 1000 would have been apropriate - that must be why all the npc sold values are ludicrously high.

Player and retainer inventory capacity will be adjusted as follows:

    Current FFXIV: ARR
    Player 200 → 100
    Retainer 150 → 175

    Current FFXIV: ARR
    Player Bazaar 10 → 0
    Retainer Bazaar 10 → 20

    * Players will be unable to operate bazaars in FFXIV: ARR.
    * Items equipped by players will not count towards the 100 item inventory limit.
    * The maximum amount of gil, crystals, and grand company seals that can be held by players and retainers will not change.
So in the end we end up losing a total of 40 inventory slots? I can live without.

Quite possibly the best piece of news I have read in a long time. The wards just might function better after this. Might...

It is sad that waist items will not be visible.

Also when SE says: "The effective purchasing power of your savings will not change." that assumes people will automatically price all market ward items at 1/10 their previous price. That will not happen for a long time - if ever.
For the love of the Twelve THIS IS NOT THE APPROPRIATE THREAD FOR THIS DISCUSSION If you want to continue beating this dead horse, please, necro the ARR gil reduction thread.

I think it is appropriate since it is an official announcement on the front page and it is laying out the details, one of which is the fact that the gil cap will not be reduced, they are just lowering the amount of gil we have which is contrary to what we were previosuly told. Their intent is to lower the amount of gil going around and lower the prices of transactions but how long will it be before we see things going for 30 mil again at this point?

No it's not appropriate because the official post is a statement of fact whereas speculating on the outcome is beyond the realm of comprehension. We don't need another 1000+post thread discussing what may or may not happen in the future- just post the facts for once, please.

It is appropriate, just like it's appropriate to state that there's actually zero reason to remove player bazaars (when even the most generic of MMORPG lets players set their own bazaar/shops) and the fact the changes to underwear and waist display is purely on a cosmetic level.

Or did you not actually read the announcement?

The thing is players weren't using Bazaars to sell items, just as extra storage while I know this would have been easily solved by keeping bazaar items in your inventory it has shown that the player bazaar system is not really needed, and a personal shop is just the same system as the retainer system, except you don't have to afk in rolmart overnight to sell things.

All I am really sad about is waist gear will not be displayed, /cry but on the upside I can go all Reinhart and don a sexy subligar and not have to worry about a sash covering everything up.

My guess is as long as it takes the gil floating around between the players to reach the point that it's at now. That could take a while.
