Nice ninja edit to throw in insults. I don't read selectively- I read the entire post from the first word to the last- and I only respond to things that deserve a response.

Netcode and server processing are parts of a whole, as is latency. They are all factors. There is in fact no cop out, because they are fixing the server systems to reduce the delay on the server end- This isn't a cop-out because SE knows about the server problems and is rebuilding the servers from the ground up to fix them. They aren't so blind and stupid as to think that reducing pings is the only thing they can do to improve network performance. But they also aren't so blind and stupid to realize that, like the netcode, ping is also a factor. Not that better ping is the only benefit of regional servers. You know, if there was an actual region lockout being implemented, then I would be opposed to the whole idea. But as long as players have the freedom to choose the server they wish to play on, there is no issue in my book.

Ping is a negligible factor nowadays. The more time passes and infrastructures get better, the more MMORPGs come out with global servers. The Secret World is just the most recent example, and TSW's boss fights blow out of the water anything FFXIV has to offer in term of complexity and need for movement and quick reaction.

Yet no one has lag problems. Why? Because the game has very good netcode.

I play TERA on the US servers despite living in Italy and having a lousy DSL. And TERA's action combat is much more sensitive to ping issues than anything FFXIV has to offer.

Yet I have no problem. Guess why? Because the game has great netcode, and I don't suck.

They're redoing the server structure and the netcode? Awesome. That just means that the ping benefits of regional servers is negligible.

There's no other benefit to regional servers, unless you coount appeasing the racists that can't bear contact with cultures different than theirs. And that's hardly a valid benefit, as those people shouldn't even be allowed to play online.

Ping is overwhelmingly outweighed by having a rich, cosmopolite community (that is already formed, mind you, and that regional servers would split), and having high traffic at every hour of the day.

Your are wrong. I rather have a NA server with people who all speak English and play at the same time as I do. It would be way better for me to play on a NA server then the current set up with servers only in Japan

God forbid you're exposed to those terrible, terrible foreign languages! Your eyes are gonna bleed I bet.

One would think that smart people would find global serverd a nice chance to interact and play with people coming from different cultures, and maybe learn something about them. And some people I see around this forum, and especially around this thread would truly need it.

People who all play at the same time you do? What about you vouch for keeping the server open only four hours a day so you're sure of that? There's many people that often have or like to play at off hours. Regional servers ensure that those people find a nice ghost town to play in. Yeah, good idea. No. not really.

oh, and PS: Might want to learn the difference between "you have a different opinion that mine" and "you're wrong", they aren't equivalent, you know?

Before discussion you should learn to accept other ppl have other opinion, there is no point to discuss with someone who can only say "My Opinion is right and your's is wrong"

If you think the only reason for regional servers is to "appease racism", then you are narrow-minded. I couldn't care what language people speak on my server. What I do want is the largest pool of players available in my timezone so I can what I want when I want in that time frame. Most people work 9-5 just like I do. The people logged in from 9-5 mean nothing to me. I'll never interact with them in anyway. So logically I want people to be on from 5-12 when I am playing. Regional servers will encourage that and just like it does in pretty much every other mmo ever made, it will also work.

NA crowd always seems to whine about exposure, cross-cultural interaction, and other related things without ever considering what the other cultures might want. Honestly if you want all that, go outside. The world's a melting pot, salad bowl, whatever, especially in America. I don't need my gaming microcosm to imitate that. Saying that does not make me racist!

Yep very bad idea. However I bet the majority of japanese like this idea and probably pushed for it and thats why any complaints againts it will fall on dead ears. I know this may seem a shocker to most of these JP ass kissing NAs, the majority of JP players dont like playing with NAs. Various reasons and whatnot. To complain about this idea is to complain to that fat girl you just met 5 mins ago why she wont sleep with you.

It has been great getting on the morning (9am) EST and finding lots of people killing Atomos.

I expected there to be no one there but there was actually more people there then at night EST.

This is one of the benefits of Global servers. A fairly large amount of peak times across time zones, instead of just one across NA.

I play a lot of mornings and crazy times and it will be disappointing to see the servers pretty much dead at those times.

Its gonna be sad.
