People are probably just annoyed that it took two years to make a graphical downgrade, that's all.SE has set a deadline. The original release of the game also had a deadline. They spent all their time working on textures and getting the appearence way way up and ignored the rest just to make pretty trailers for the game. The game itself though, it didn't turn out well.
Do I need to see the folds and crevices on my avatar's shirt? No. I don't even notice them and neither does anyone else. So why was time spent putting them their?
People are obsessed with the appearance right now for one reason. They are an observer, not the participating player whom interact within the game's graphically represented environment. When people play a game, they stop paying attention to how pretty things are and start focusing on the tasks at hand. So anything people say now will quickly be forgotten once they begin playing.
I'll remind everyone; the only thing you've seen up to now are incredibly short (one or two second snap shots) sequences of the game. Fit together in a trailer. You can't judge the game appearance on that.
Funny thing about this graphical downgrade. I am playing FFXIV 1.0 currently on high settings everything on highest with AO and DoF off and funny thing is, the game looks exactly like these "downgrades" all of you people are complaining about, on my GTX 680 4GB card. As she said all you people are observing and not playing. Lighting and textures which is exactly what they said they are working on is what you guys are complaining about. BTW the only thing I see detailed better on higher settings is the armor is looking amazing. I spent a good 30 minutes in character creator and in game zooming in and out with the camera and all angles and when I get lighting directly on the face (just like in these "downgraded" pictures all of you are complaining about) they look exactly the same. So you all are looking at something I don't know what. Yes the game is beautiful but I honestly don't see a difference. When I can upload photos later (writing a college paper atm) I can show you that all of you must be looking at everything through rosey tinted glasses because I honestly see exactly the same if not better textures and images.

In the New Adventures trailer I would agree with everyone saying that there is a graphical downgrade, but the latest build is the live letter build of the game, which you can "hardly" notice any differences, ( only for the extreme picky people). They aren't even done optimizing yet, so its going to look a lot better than what it already is.
As I said before in other threads: "Doom and Gloom must be the new fab these days"
SE has failed to deliver time and time again, any expectations i have for XIV "ARR" way below normal. Give me Something to be optimistic about. In the New Adventures trailer I would agree with everyone saying that there is a graphical downgrade, but the latest build is the live letter build of the game, which you can "hardly" notice any differences, ( only for the extreme picky people). Well, your not looking hard enough at what they have shown. People are being blinded by the bad launch ( understandable) that they can't see what's in front of them, and they automatically think the game is going to suck regardless of what they tell everyone.
aside from the things we already knew 4 months ago i see nothing new or exciting,
wow choco's can jump, we have zones and there's been a shader overhaul at the expense of texture quality whoopie.

This post just furthers my point even further. We know a lot already, there's only so much they can tell us.. the rest is just a "wait and see" thing.
People are being blind by launch in 2010. Graphics do not make games, Play FFXIII if you think that, because that's what that game was all about but the game itself was bare. Same thing here except its an MMO.
In fact, I don;t want them to tell us everything, because if they did, it wouldn't make the launch of the game exciting. I rather things to come as a surprise, then to tell us all now and then its not as exciting because the surprise factor is gone.
I'm not stopping you from thinking the way you are, do what you like. However, when the game is way better then what your making it out to be ( another failure by your tone), you will surely be way surprised then, and didn't give Yoshida hard long days without any sleep work any thought and all.
Things we know already:
-Crystal tower
- 3 Story Arcs (Garland/Primal/7th Umbra era)
- Golden Saucer
- New Genders for races
- New summons
- New Job/class
- New overhauled areas + New areas I'm sure
- PvP (Frontlines etc)
- Chocobos/mounts can jump
- New Mounts
- Dungeons will be 3 times as large as they are now
- Lots of New Quests
- Roaming Primals
- Free Companies ( With a Ranking System)
- Housing system ( each area will have it's own theme)
- Content finder ( to make content easier to find when you don't have a lot of time)
- Limit Break
- Summons you obtain in a free company can be used by filling up a bar and using it before time limit is up)
So many things to be "excited" that I'm not going to list them all, just people being blind to not see them all.
