A relaunch has higher mountains to climb than an initial launch.

Comparing the graphics
FFXIV now
then
more details in the environment
the details within the environment of Thanalon now (missing many vegetation)
then (with many cactuars, grass, bushes and tracks etc. in it)
what happened? for me the world of ARR is seeming much more lively in the end. i really enjoy that fact.. with that in background having many "sightseeing stuff" in their hands.
you just got blind over the years, like me.
well i enjoy the much more lively details in ARR much more than the boring environment which we have right now in the current version.
that was a very much negative aspect of FFXIV .. but you seem to almost forgot about it. do you forgot that thanalan looks almost the same in front of the gates of ul'dah through the whole zone? it looks just all the same... im not exploring thanalan, because there is nothing to explore.
and thats why i'm happy about playing finally ARR.. it has zones with loadscreens, yeah but we have things to recognize.

Why is this tread still on the front page?
We need a way to post in a thread without bumping it.
Maybe the models are not even half way finished, as a developer imho its easier to get down to business as soon as you have a semi finished model, to check if it motions correctly while jumping, fighting, etc, having to wait to have the finished models can take precious time, so i dont think we saw the real looks of the game, they already said the quality wasnt maxed atm.
They have the textures of the current game, i dont think they'll trow all away, but lets wait and see how it really looks at release, i dont bother that much if the game turns a bit cartoony because all the glowing and vivid colors, right now the game looks boring.

Yeah I feel they havent put in their full scale aftereffects - in the mean time I am saying chocobo looks worse. Once it looks better, I say chocobo looks better lol - pretty simple.
Since Yoshida says its not done - I have hope it will get better, since Yoshida hasnt listed everything that still needs to be added I cant have fact of it will get better.
Of course he doesnt have to keep a change log for us, that would waste his time - BUT it would be nice to see more screenshot updates.

A thread for you^
Comparing the the graphics
and yea you also can make ugly screenshots in the current version, if you want to.
the current graphic is also not perfect at all. its crappy static in all ways. thanalan looks everywhere the same from ul'dah and to the last corner of thanalan. with MUCH less details in it.
i can speak for myself that im looking much more forward to the different zones in ARR than to explore any region in FFXIV...
i think the eyes are just looking different it looks to me like it would reflect the sky or light effects if you ask me.. the new engine offers real dynamic shadowing.
if the chocobo would stand in a shadow it maybe would look the same, dark and brown.

2.0 Gridania area is god like compared to all zones in 1.0, the train station thanalan area looks super awesome as well. Still have hard feeling aganist that grass in the looking at Uldah screenshot and barren grassless La Noseca (which we only saw in the video that used old content).
2.0 Defintely has more details in the enviroment, but we have yet to see if our active mobile models are effected the same way by 2.0. I havent seen any characters/chocobos look better - just look worse on some occasions (it appears that hair, fur, skin, eyes and other lively objects havent had their finishing touches - I hope that means they will get them though).

its the different lightning.. with the luminous studio engine the colors of the characters, and all textures seem much much brighter when they are in the sun.2.0 Defintely has more details in the enviroment, but we have yet to see if our active mobile models are effected the same way by 2.0. the luminous engine offers real dynamic shadowing
Lightning in the current version. The character doesnt seem to be effected that much by the sun light.
we have no dynamic shadows like this right now:
characters "blinded by the sun" [shows an earlier alpha version]
characters half in the shadows [shows an earlier alpha version]
in darkness the character seems more three-dimensional :
(A Realm reborn screenshot)
when the charactes is directly in the sunlight he maybe seems just too bright. For your meaning "cartoonish"
its the lightning and shadow effect which disturbs you.
but Yoshida also said, that the lightning and shadowing of the last trailer they've released was not final and showed an earlier version. (the first two screenshots)
