    Troll? I hope so.

I don't particularly like being pressured by raid leaders to have certain addons, but at the same time I love being able to customize my UI and get more information. It especially helps those who are starting up content after the rush of people have already done it, which is something this game desperately needs. Right now there's a barrier to entry to any kind of decent content if you haven't already done it when it came out, which is exactly the worst way to try and get new players in.

It would depend on whether it was necessary or not.

I used windower with all the bells and whistles in XI, because without it the game was basically unplayable.

What I don't get is why some people care so much about how somebody else enjoys the game. It's none of your damn business. As long as the mod isn't doing actions for the player, does it even matter? It's just presenting the same information in a different way.

People will take any excuse to feel superior.

Normally the 'vanilla' players in XI were bad too, not just in a lack of information but in skill. Yet they blamed things like windower.

Some people just dont think that games should use addons.
Just as some other people think RMTs are bad.

Except that RMTs are poisonous to the game environment? Someone else choosing to use addons affects your gameplay about as much as somebody choosing to turn their music off.
Actually scratch that, it would affect your gameplay - that person you may be pugging Titan with in the future that is a bit slow on the uptake might actually get out of range of Quake in time and not cause a wipe thanks to having HNMBuster or whatever it would be called here.

I don't mind add-ons , as long as they do not enhance the gameplay to much over those who will not use it. So if it is just battle information that can be learned or is in the logs and you just don't want to read it, go for it.. use the add on, just NO BOTTING programs. please SE monitor the use of these add ons for quite some time and regulate which ones are allowed.

Don't raid with them then. I mean most of raiding groups "forcing" their members to use addons state it clearly on their raiding rules (or if you ask upon joining that group). Again as said earlier on this thread, pick a raiding environment that suit you.

No one will point a gun at you, forcing you to use addons. Having lead raids I was expecting my members to come fully prepared and min/max everything meaning:

    - No room for improvisation, you use the spec/job you are told to use. Yes it means having an army of clone sometimes. Don't care. (Off course if a member believe a certain spec can be better, he is free to suggest it to the raid/role leaders.)
    - Have certain addons installed
    - Teamspeak mandatory (listen at least)
    - Wear the right gear depending on the encounter
    - Have the best possible consumables and enough of them to cover the whole raid
    - Come to raid fully healed/repaired
    - Read up on strategy on forums

But rules were clear and members "signed" them. A raid is a group of people sharing a common goal, common interests and a common vision of things on how to achieve that goal. As long as everyone agree on the same rules, no matter how strict they are, the raiding environment can be healthy.

Think the guard for princess in CC) that needs to be burned down.

The addon won't automate your gameplay, you'll still have to manually do all the stuff. However, it'll make certain things in combat, such as warnings/spawns/abilities, much more apparent and help you stay focused.
While I understand what you are trying to suggest/defend I have to defend my position. We don't need a "tutorial mode" for raiding which points out what to do and when to do it.

    Would I support an addon...

    to show enemy HP%? Yes
to remind me that at 65% to stop DPS on garuda? No

to tell me the distance from target? Yes
to tell me which distance I should be at for which monster (IE Coincounter)? No

that shows me how long I've been fighting a monster? Yes
that reminds me guard pops every 1 hour in game time? No

I'm not against making the data viewable, i'm against going beyond that and telling xyz person how to do their role. Addons shouldn't get into 1. how to position, 2. what skills to use, 3. what the enemy is doing/about to do. Those should all come from experience and figuring that kind of stuff out.
