I believe they built 11 around the ps2 first then transfered it to pc. While this one they built the pc version first and transfered it to ps3 which IMO is more logical. But I could be wrong /shrugI have to agree with this. I know i'll probably make a few enemies saying this but I personally would prefer the game be pc exclusive. It's not like it's that wild of an idea really, GW2, WoW, ToR generally ever mmo is for pc only. Having played XI for some 8 years I saw first hand what happens when you go cross platform on an mmo.
Though a lot of the issues with XI were crazyness of armor and size of enemies/area's which isn't much of a problem for the ps3 as it can scale things pretty damn well. I guess over all what SE can do is always release like High Res texture packs and DX11 support for pc. There's many cosmetic things you can do to a graphics engine that won't effect gameplay in the least.
I kinda agree.Well first, specific games on PS3 IMO has surpassed the graphics on FFXIV already especially the PS3 version. I think it's more of the art style. Don't get me wrong FFXiV is gorgeous but it will be outdone in the near future by other games. I very much enjoy the art style of this game as long as its not so bland which with 2.0 should change that.
Edit: person above me pretty much said what I wanted to
Sure there are plenty of games that look worse on ps3 and it's not a disaster just technically quite sloppy.
What I hope is that the new areas will be a lot more imaginative and have overall more interesting art direction.
That is something that can make the graphics timeproof and memorable.
I have to say that this specific trailer though did not give that kind of an impression. Maybe it's just very rough but still the design is pretty bland in these scenes.
I never had trouble looking at grass textures in LL area but the fact that there wasn't anything interesting to see.
I wonder what's happening in the 3d process since all the concept art is imaginative and amazing but in-game the same areas often look mundane and bland.
Yah I think most the limitations with XI were more due to the graphics engine being used then it was the ps2. The Graphics engine was programmed to never exceed the limitations of the ps2 is my best guess. Meanwhile this system has been built from the ground up for pc
I was starting to doubt ffxiv for a second or two I was wondering how is it possible that it can go from really nice graphics in the other videos to bland and almost no texture detail. Then I read the post about it being played on ps3, thank goodness.
Me and my computer were starting to sweat, well I guess I won't be buying the ps3 version not like I was going to anyway last thing I need is one more account I already have two.
Thing is, it looks just like the pc version.... soooo yaaa... take that what it's worth.I was starting to doubt ffxiv for a second or two I was wondering how is it possible that it can go from really nice graphics in the other videos to bland and almost no texture detail. Sure they've surpassed FFXIV. But an MMO is decidedly more resource-heavy than a single-player game, so the graphics have to be scaled down accordingly.Well first, specific games on PS3 IMO has surpassed the graphics on FFXIV already especially the PS3 version. FPSs are also generally confined on a map by map basis very seldom with a consistent world. Everything is prerendered and scripted on that map.
MMOs however, takes much more memory in the long run due to it's persistent world and needing to render more things at a time. You don't have NPCs in FPS matches for example, nor do you have constant events happening that isn't scripted into the maps background, for example planes flying overhead etc.
So while both are online games, MMOs are a different beast.
