Then why have animations at all?

It is just seconds on top of seconds of wasted time when all is said and done.
Why have a walking animation? or a flourish when you swing your weapon? an action when you consume a meal? or little hop when you encounter a small obstacle?
What is the point of having Intricate weapon skill animations? Why should they be different? After all.... that is just another wasted second, maybe even two!, when i could just as happily push one button and the action/movement/WS could be triggered, executed, and hit the target all in the exact second i wish, with the little elvaan sod just standing there like a brick wall!

Oh, the excitement.... it its too much for me.

Exactly, instead of playing FFXIV, we could all JUST DO MATH instead!

8000hp - 1356 points of damage from my weaponskill = 6644hp to go!

    I'm having fun!

I don't play many modern games; I have a generally low budget for video games, so subscription MMO's are usually where I go. Spent way too much time with FFXI. So, to me, this kind of animation blew my friggin' mind when I finally sallied forth to FFXIV. I adored how my little Jivu character actually started moving, stopped moving, and changed direction before moving when I pushed her in a direction she wasn't facing.

Adored it. And now it's gone.

The game won't feel real anymore. I'm not whining about immersion. My character is no longer believable. If I run down the street, I don't start out running at my maximum velocity. I shouldn't look like that, either. They went to great lengths to make 2.0 look drastically different from the current version. So far, all I've seen is just prettier graphics on the same ol' same ol'. (Whinewhinewhineit'snotoutyet, but that male miqote PLD used Spirits Within and I cringed when it looked exactly the same.)

Mechanics are one thing. If the only thing they fixed was the gathering/crafting systems and the item movement UI, I'd laud this as a great success.

I'm also tired of excuses from this company; you should be fixing the broken game and adding new content to make the game better. Don't take out what was good about it. If I, a person, like mentioned, who can shell out a bit more money to upgrade my hardware to play this game, I think most of their playerbase can too. Scary stop motion.

One step forward and two steps in a bilateral corkscrew, I guess. So while I took a roundabout way of getting here, and in that I usually giggle at Rokien threads, I will sign.

Very well said. Please, if there is a chance for us to change something, we need to be vocal. Keep the threads alive, constantly reminding them that we're not okay with their decision to remove the animations

Quoting this in my thread by the way.

They've added smooth animation and kept aesthetics as important. For some reason, you think that making the animations a little simpler means that SE has thrown out aesthetics and is making the game ugly and choppy and going to back to the 90s. Your views are an extremely emotional reaction to something that won't matter a hill of beans.

As far as the majority of players and reviewers who have seen this game, they're uninamous that YoshiP and SE is turning this sow's ear into a silk purse. It's already won awards much to the shock of the troll community who wrote, is writing and will continue to write this game off regardless of what SE does.

Gramul, Rokien, Remy.... It's okay to like some aspects of this game, and miss them when they're gone, but saying that ARR is going to be a bad game because they took them out is just silliness. IF ARR is a bad game it will because the screw up the gameplay mechanics... you know like they did in 1.0. That the UI is burdensome... like in 1.0.

The game is going to look just fine. No one is saying this game is looking worse because there's not an extra step in your running animation.

-1 animation, +10 reasons to actually like the game.

Here's a great idea, don't just keep animations, let's make them last 2x as long so animation lock is even worse! dededededede

It's amazing all the "I have lost faith in SE, you took out all the realism in the game, goodbye" replies that have been made. Well, cya =D Going to be enjoying the hell out of 2.0 myself. Hope the grass is greener in some other mmo. Oh, I shouldn't have mentioned grass, another sore spot

I'm honestly baffled by those who seem to be agitated at others for speaking their mind. ARR is a game built on the foundation that others were unsatisfied with a company's product and spoke up about it. If it weren't for those people, I wouldn't be surprised if this game would have gone offline permanently by now

I'm also surprised at how little people seem to understand or respect the notion of artistic integrity. A game is a sum of its parts. The visual and auditory components enhance the gameplay aspects, and can often carry a game that would otherwise be considered mediocre or lackluster (For example game's such as No More Heroes, Madworld, Psychonauts, Shadow of the Colossus; all games that rely on their aesthetic and vision to make them unique and memorable experiences, rather than gameplay). For some people, like myself, these aspects weigh very heavily on our overall enjoyment of the game

However, there are other issues associated with this whole mess. From what we've seen, XIV seems to have been relegated to that of every MMO we've already payed for. Removing the only unique aspects the game had going for it (The animations, the ecosystem and mob behaviors and traits, the slower and more deliberate pace) tied with the additions of such trivialities as 'Gear Score' and the total restructure of gameplay and progression to match that of, well, every other title, has removed any excitement I had built for ARR. XIV had flaws, really terrible, deal breaking flaws, but at least it wasn't the same game I've played for the last 8 years.

Exactly. We say the game is looking worse because they completely removed the current animation, replacing it with generic Korean MMO animation, with camera pans, stiff running, backpedaling etc, that looks completely fake and awkward compared to what we currently have.

I wouldn't even make a thread if they had just removed an extra step in the stopping animation

The stop motion may have been unique, but don't forget that what people complained about at launch was like how non-Final Fantasy-like FFXIV was. Sure it was the prettiest most animated MMO at the time, but there were no airships no chocobos, no real moogles (except in the FF quests) that would make you even aware you were playing a FFXIV game.

In FFXIV: ARR there will be no question that this is a Final Fantasy MMO. Not only is the aesthetics gorgeous and detailed, using a top of the line game graphics engine, there are all the components and parts that are being borrowed from the decades long Final Fantasy lore.

Saying that taking out the stop motion and other minor animations will make it just like every other MMO, that FFXIV will no longer be unique is also not taking into account the big picture.

And that's what's going on here. The removal of this single tree has made people blind to the bigger trees that are coming and staying.

Edit: Nemy, you need to click on the links provided by Gramul, the review of the animations are glowing. Really, it llooks like a Korean MMO if you agree that Korean MMOs look awesome.
