    I will always support focus on gameply over "pretty animations", yes the FF mmo games have had good looking animations compared to other MMOs but compared to other MMOs the movement in FF MMOs have been restricting as fuck. And before telling me to go play other MMO games then, I am, I'm playing GW2 and loving it. I only log on to FFXIV now just to talk to LS members and maybe help if help is needed. But I also love the FF universe so I'm glad the team is focusing on gameplay which actually makes games fun to play, besides I don't think the animations in the gameplay video looked bad. They still look better than other MMO games.

    There really is no reason we can't have both except to get the game out faster.
    And if it's that important they'll probaly "fix" it later, they still need to get this game out. They can't hold it back to fix every little complaint people have over every little thing. If sacrificing this so that they can focus on gameplay and get the game out in time for christmas then that is what they should do.

    I just wanted to remind you that IT'S BEEN ALMOST A DECADE, and we have already seen and got used to the godly animations we currently have.

    And you're "fine" with their decision to throw the current animation in the garbage, and replace it with a decade old one, just to rush the new game on consoles earlier?

    I guess some people really deserve bad games.

    I would rather stop immediately then have an animation that drags on for an extra 2-3 seconds.

    "Fix it later" is exactly what they did for 2.0 in the first place. If this is the type of thing the 'MMO standard' has in store, I'm not sure how long I'll play after release. It clearly isn't a "Little complaint" and there are quite a few of us annoyed not only with the animation, but the tank control movement. How is detached movement like that good for gameplay?

    Why? If the animation is just a visual, it won't matter. It should be a display to make the game feel more alive without getting in the way of gameplay at all.

    Remove animation lock when going from passive to active, and fix the stopping on active mode. They don't have to throw out the whole current animation to solve this problem, unless they're really really rushing this game out.

    Though I take issue with how Nemy presents her arguments here and there, I find I have to agree with her more and more. The movements of our characters are real and it makes them feel alive. Get rid of the start/stop animations? Not ideal, but fine. But what possible reason is there for removing our current running animation? The motion capture already existed, and the new engine is more powerful than Crystal Tools. It should be able to support the old, no?

    I think what this thread really boils down to is an argument between people who feel a real connection with their characters which is supported and augmented by the realistic motions they perform while moving, and those people who couldn't care less about any of that stuff and just want a game.

    In the case of the latter, that's exactly how GW2 is. There's no soul to the game or to your character. It's just a game. You aren't having a grand adventure, you're just controlling a puppet on screen. In Final Fantasy, every little thing, from the subtle movements while standing, the way we lean a bit when running, the really sudden stop we make when changing direction suddenly, and even to how the camera is positioned, all add up to let the player transport themselves into the character on screen and to inhabit that character. This isn't about roleplay, mind you. I don't even know what it's called, but I'm sure empathy comes into it.

    All of this is important.

    Unfortunately, it seems it's only important to (a few) current players, and it has been noted that we're not exactly the target audience anymore. I'll still play the game, and I'll likely enjoy it a great deal, but if the animations stay as bad as what we've seen, it's going to be a big loss to a lot of people. At this point all I can hope for is that they've kept the eye movements with the head tracking.

    It's a big part of making the game feel pretty but I wouldn't go as far as to say it's core aspect in a MMO game. Interface, gameplay, enviroment, monster design, character design, I would put all those above animation in a MMO game. And honestly, the animations in FFXIV are not as godly as you people make them out to be. Go watch a gameplay video from The Last of US, now that is godly. The FFXIV running/walking animations are pretty yes but come on... they're not THAT special.
