I don't really care what you like to call it. Same thing, different name. The point is it looks terrible, and it is one of the many little reasons I don't play other MMOs.
In simple terms:
"My character moves 'weird' .. I don't like this."

Someone should go and play 1.0 and check out the movements while locked on the target.
I get the feeling almost every single Poster in this Thread never played 1.0 with "Target lock" mode. People act like we don't have strafing and "Sideway Walking" at all. And people actually forget that we had way worse Animations back when 1.0 was released, which got fixed over time.

I unlock the target when walking/running "sideways" or "backwards" (so I'm not actually running sideways or backwards, I'm turning and running in a different direction). It looks better, more realistic, and I feel I move faster. :3Someone should go and play 1.0 and check out the movements while locked on the target.

I will die a little inside if I don't have that in 2.0, (the ability to turn and run in a different direction, rather than walking slowly backwards).

You dont feel you move faster, you actually do.![]()
But still.. we have that "weird" looking Animations right now, so i dont get all that complaining about it. Iirc they said in the last Show/Interview that the Battle Animations are not done and they did not want to show it yet, so i don't know... All people talk about in this Threads are actually the Battle-Animations, no?
I guess the Dev's were more refering to the Animations where you lean to the Side you are running to, which were missing in the Demo.

Rightclick mouse turn run forward. It's not that hard. Most mmos work like this.I unlock the target when walking/running "sideways" or "backwards" (so I'm not actually running sideways or backwards, I'm turning and running in a different direction). That's very awkward actually, and a reason I have a hard time playing "most MMOs."
It's SO much easier to just be able to turn my character around and dash off in another direction immediately the way FFXIV is now than to spin my camera all the way around before I can move. >.> That's just a step backwards in game design if you ask me.
(And you assumed I play with a keyboard and mouse. I actually have to play with a controller due to a hand injury. :3 I can't play more than an hour or so a day with a keyboard and mouse.)

That is the whole point of this thread man.. Camera lock should be 100% optional. We should not be forced to strafe and backpedal just so SE can implement bad Western MMO controls. And they definitely should not remove everything remotely close to good movement animations so they can do it.Someone should go and play 1.0 and check out the movements while locked on the target.

I get the feeling that you're white-knighting too much.Someone should go and play 1.0 and check out the movements while locked on the target.

Before the confirmation you insisted that my worries were useless.
Now that we know the animation is a serious downgrade, you again try to justify it, by falsely comparing it with the current one.
No. The objective truth is that the ARR animation as shown in these videos looks way worse not only compared to what we currently have, but the one 1.0 had at the very first day.
Hell it even looks worse than other mmo's now.

I get the feeling that you are trying to change other people's opinions too much,
Go back to the Quote from the Dev and tell me which Animation she was talking about.
Falsely comparing it to the current version? Isn't that what you are doing the whole Time, by wanting it the same way as the current Version?
That is your personal opinion and not more or less. Unless this is your second Character, you didnt play at the very first day. So how would you know at all? Our Characters stop'd when we pulled out the Weapon, which caused Problem. The next Step was pulling out the Weapon and "sliding", which looked more unrealistic... it took a while until it got fixed. And that is just one example out of many different Animations which were different to what we have now.
That is your opinion and i dont have to share it.![]()
