There would be less speculation if non JP customers got complete info for a change instead of a translation that leaves off half of what is said because it's "not important".

There would be less speculation if players stopped making their own interpretations of what was said. It is complete information, Data Centers isn't an ambiguous term at all.

All the servers are still going to be worldwide. The only thing that's going to change is the physical location of some of the servers.

Why do people keep posting about this? It was very clear, yet people are acting like the world is going to end.

It's that naggine feeling of "What if the people who said that meant regional servers were right" even if they understand it to be wrong.

Chances are we will get clarification on monday considering half the forum is going insane about it.

Just listen to what is being said if you understand Japanese. The translation left about half of what he said out. Or did you see anything about him saying to not think of it as them building a wall in the subs?

I work for AT&T, the largest telecommunications company in the world... And yes Datacenters do house servers but majority of the time it's just to improve latency or replication of data.

So I'm not sure who made you so un-informed on the topic of data centers.

anyhoo.. The severs will still remain cross-regional and cross-platform.. No the sky is not falling.
Well I invented the question mark, and I'm also the illegitimate child of the man who invented the internet, Al Gore. So I think its obvious now who is clearly the authority on the subject(me). Can you please explain to us how these magic centers are going to improve the latency issues of something that is a direct result of the distance from the client to the server? Do they have proton accelerators? That's probably it.

Well if that's the case I guess the only question left to resolve is this little tidbit:

    Yoshida:
The players will have a choice of selecting a server based in their region or a server overseas
Lets talk about the meaning of this for a second. Even if this miracle data machine existed that you're talking about, and even if he didn't clearly say the word server there... Why would they need to give players the option to select their region? They could just detect it themselves and warp their connections to infinity and beyond!

Translators do that because they repeat stuff and don't need to translate every little thing. They got you all the important info. Unless you know Japanese and can point out what they left out.

there called relay servers and have been used for years to speed up routing and boost weak signals, there mostly used in the computer realm to allow better Point to Point communication over long distances and yes they can even accelerate signals by using dedicated devices at each end of the points(even though there ungodly expensive they do exist). relay servers can also allow for a proprietary software to be used to decrease the response times between server communications, something that wouldn't be allowed by most ISP's because it would break the network stack and transmit non standardized protocols.

however is that what we're going to see here, i doubt it. if not Just regional the next step would be Mirrored Servers and i'm leaning more toward the mirrored servers than just plain old regional but that's just my hope talking.

In any school or reputable college if you use Wikipedia as a source the teacher calls you a freaking moron and a automatic F. I don't understand why ppl on the internet think they can use it as a reputable source.

There's nothing wrong with using wikipedia to find things, but you need to go to the cited sources, and then cite THOSE, if they seem reliable. I don't know any teachers that automatically failed you for using wikipedia (properly, that is). Wikipedia is a secondary source, not a primary source, and is fine to use as long as it's not cited as if it were one.

Just because the guy links you to a wikipedia article doesn't mean the information contained in it is false. We aren't writing essays here, so why would you demand that people consult their MLA handbook for proper use of sources and citing?
