Passive MP regen is for the time between battles, MP regen abilities is for MP management during a battle. If currently people are abusing the passive regen, why not simply change it so you can't just go to passive mode while a target is still engaged? Are there any other interactions that would make it unfeasible to force a player to remain in combat?

I don't understand the need for Mp-Regen in this upcoming update. Conjurers in my opinion are over-powered currently. If you do not know how to use your job then you should not complain about running out of MP.
I'm in full support of removing the MP regen. There is no pride in being a mage any more. Only bad players need it. Adding MP regen for bad players makes the game more boring for good players.
These two posts couldn't be anymore true, and I couldn't agree anymore. When I heard about this auto-MP regen change like 2 months ago I was like "wtf? this is completely unneeded, I have unlimited MP as it is, now I'll never run out of mp no matter what? cool" I remember idiots would run out of MP randomly because they'd forget to siphon/tranquaility/etc, now no one runs out of MP, ever.

Mages don't have to manage hate, they don't have to manage mp, they don't have to manage cast times, they don't even have to manage positioning. WHAT EXACTLY DOES A MAGE DO? LOL I normally play support or casters in MMOs, but they take such little skill in this game I gave up at around 30 -_-

Mages don't have to manage hate? When did that happen?

And managing MP before the regen change was hardly a challenge, more like a stupid inconvenience.

I sure don't need to manage hate, my THM and CONJ are both better tanks than every job in the game besides glad/pug pretty much, and THM is the best tank in the game. Also mobs hit for air, you can spam -ga'd spells without a care in the world, etc etc. Why manage your hate again?

And no, it wasn't a challenge then either, but now it's even more of a joke.

So, casters are better tanks than actual tanks, and therefore MP regen should be removed? Alright, gotcha. I fully support this.

The thing that annoyed me most before the MP regen feature was that someone would always say to me "Oh, could you fix..." just after touching a node. Losing half your MP changing back from a DoH job was a pain in the rear- granted not insurmountable but still... I personally don't see it as being any different to the HP regen while in passive mode or the /kneel command from FFXI. I know people hate the comparison to FFXI, but this is a Final Fantasy series game so it is human nature to draw some comparisons- so apologies to those that it upsets ^^.

What they need to do is make it so you can cast without pulling out you weapon tbh.

Conj is actually not a good tank at all.. not even in the slightest... And Thaum is only with Emulate and only on enemies with super high elemental resistances, like NM's, and even then, the physical hits still hit like a truck... At low level this could be true, but beyond NMs, go fight Creeping Ivy, Mildewed Goobbue, Goblin Headman and you'll see MOBs that one shot a mage....

As far as MP regen... like most other stuff... they are changing so much of the game now, that you really can't judge it on it's usefulness in the current system.... Maybe they intend to speed up gameplay, or lower the casting time of the ancient magics and make them very useful... at that point MP regen would be welcome....

At the very least... And this is no offense to the OP, but at 34 conjurer, you dont really know what is useful for your class in the game yet
I dont think it was intended to be used in battle though.... That is true... I could see them making it so you wont regen when engaged in battle.... Would that make the detractors feel better?

I don't think you've ever been in an NM fight then. I throw out heals to damage my hp so I can Shadowsear. Then Siphon TP to use Flashfreeze, then Siphon Mp to regain some lost MP. Sometime though rarely I use tranquility/exaltation. So the usefulness is still there.

And what does it matter if we spam DD, or heals? Melee spam attacks all the time. If we die it's our faults for not learning to make sure we don't die.
I favour this response very much. It encapsulates all my thoughts on conjurer, I'd like to add that there is a much need of more content to really make the mp regen shine and make mage users to fully see its benefits.

I have done an BW r40 leves where we tried to zerg the leves with 8 ppl and I have to use syphon mp and tranquility on top of having mp regen active when I'm running to the next sets of mobs. My job in that party was to be a backup nuker and backup healer at the same time since there were only 2 mages in the party. We did the leves flawlessly at 3 stars and some at 4 stars. Also note that there are not many options to gain SP quickly at this time in FFXIV so zerging leves and raptor parties are seen to be the most viable solutions if you want to maximize your playtime and quick SP gain as this allows you to allocate more time for crafting/farming and other in game activities you do, considering you are a very active player.

I consider myself a very active player, so anything that can get me fast SP gain and breeze through BW r40 leves in an hour or less I'm all for it. I can focus on other stuffs I'd like to do like crafting.

It was uneeded, once you got siphon mp, but like some have said the whole game battle system is going to change, so who knows what anything means anymore. Fact is your getting a new game, everything in the past may go away, and it is likely that anything that was good about this game will be gone as well. If they are good at making the new system, it may have new things that are good, but you re just gonna have to let go of what this game was, because that game will no longer exist.
