    I get that they wanted classes = solo, and jobs = group but it doesnt really work that way. The 'create a class' thing failed because everyone used the same skills, you were just Tank, DPS or Mage. This whole community is about finding the best, using it in excess and excluding the rest.

    Bard is the ONLY job i wont solo with. I solo'd BLM, WAR and MNK from 30~36 to 50, and BRD was the only one where i just couldn't keep myself from silently sobbing, and had to play Archer JUST for invigorate and sentinel. When doing stuff alone at lv cap, i always go PLD or WHM. I haven't played Glad/Conj solo since jobs came about and ive never had problems because of it. I could go class for piece of mind that im being more efficient and some people enjoy that in games, so im not gonna question their right, its just not an issue for me.

    In groups, people will still play classes, despite jobs being pitched as the superior grouping method. I know its mainly for raises and support effects, but there shouldnt ever be a need in a group situation to change from group job to solo class to provide a better group experience. It just means the concept failed somewhere. Need sentinel? Well if undodgable, 1-shot abilities exist then jobs should have their own way to prevent that without relying on another classes skillset. Need raise? We should have raise items, changing to a class for raise should be the last resort. Need AoE abilities? If a jobs native ability is capable of AoE, the job should have a way to apply that itself.

    It just seems to silly to me, that everything has 2 variations of the SAME thing, it just depends on how much you want/need raise, cure, sacred prism, and sentinel. Theres others that can be useful in a group but probly not worth the loss of your job abilities. If new classes are added with abilities that become desired in group play, then people will start using them more frequently in big battles and the fine line drawn between job and class is gonna get really blurred. If they stay the same with only a handful of skills tempting people to occasionally go class over job for grouping, then classes are still this rather unnecessary alternative to one well rounded job.

    I'm not saying down with classes or to drop them. Im not the only one playing this game, i know some people really love what we have now and thats totally cool. Its just if i logged in as a Black Mage and identified my main role as a Black Mage, then i would expect to solo AND group on Black Mage, without the idea of Thaumaturge bobbing about in my mind. ;;

    And that's exactly the point; you choose how you want to play. If you want to operate strictly as a specialized Black Mage, then by all means have at it. If you'd rather play as a versatile mage capable of a wider(though currently not incredibly wide) skill set with better small group/solo parameters, then stick with Thaumaturge. There is NO REASON that the two cannot coexist in harmony.

    Keep in mind people that this whole time, we've been dealing with 1.xx limitations(which were VAST): Very few classes with few abilities that weren't either broken, redundant, or boring; and a serious dearth of content to name a few. Yoshi P and the dev team tried to work with said limitations and gave us the(very barebones) job system and interesting content such as dungeons, which were eventually balanced mostly for full party groups and job users. You're all mostly(and erroneously) assuming that 2.0 will carry on with those specs, but it will not. There are going to be all sorts of wide levels of content as far as what they've told us already, because said 1.xx limits are going to be dealt with entirely with the release of 2.0.

    Because the internet is full of impatience and volatile dispositions, I guess.

    Exactly, the "community" Orca is talking about is only ONE SUBSET of the whole. Its a fascist scene who's only concern is Efficiency. Ok i get it. Knock yourselves out. Winning is nice, so i dont blame them for being ruthless about their own party set ups. But if the developers mean to support that kind of play style, and ONLY that kind, then us freedom-loving romantics are doomed. DooOOOOOOmmmmmed

    @Malakhim: I kinda doubt they can live in harmony tbh. They can certainly occupy the same servers and even achieve equal results, but not together. The acolytes of the ONE TRUE WAY don't usually like libertarians/free agents in their parties .
