SE should only have released FFXIV in Japan

I don't think the reason why America is seen in a negative light is because people think they are lazy whiners.

Quite the opposite really.

There are many different views of America, its populace, and its government. Some look at us as lazy while others feel we impose into other countries affairs too much(along with other views from other countries). I however decided to respond based off of the sight of Americans always complaining(which is sometimes accompanied with us being seen as lazy) when I read the OP.

They are making a MMO, they want to play in the MMO market, so they need constructive feedback from MMO players. They should have made a real beta-test with real forums and listened to their players. Then they would have realized they needed at least one more year of work before releasing.

Japan release only? I don't think so - yeah, the damage is done, but I am happy to be here now so I can see first hand the changes it goes through till it becomes a fantastic game.

I agree to a small extent but then I disagree at the same time. Main reason is because it wouldn't have been declared such a failure by the reviews if it was released in Japan first but I disagree in the way the game would have turned out. Look at the player polls and the what the Japanese players like compared to the American/Euro's is way different.

The problem isn't that they should have only released it in japan, it's that they shouldn't have released it at all when they did... The game needs more time in development, which is basically what's going on now.

If you judge it as a full complete game, it leaves a lot to be desired... But imo, if you consider it a work in progress, I think it's well on it's way to being the best mmo around. Aside from just needing more content, what they do with the class and combat systems will really determine the games future, as the content and more tweaks are inevitable, but this is probably the only time they will overhaul such fundamental mechanics as those in such a drastic way. Sure hope they make the most of it, definitely don't want them to rush it.

The PR wouldn't have been as bad, so that's a yes, but it's generally hated around the world, so it wouldn't have changed the result, so a no.

The easier answer would have been to not make it a crappy game.

Then we would have had to hear about the crappy Japan reviews and not been able to play, agonizing on the side lines while Japan could at least run around the world if anything. Just like in FFXI.. I knew the reviews were bad then too, but I still wanted to play....

Like kukurumei said, it would have been a better idea to just not release it yet and do so when the game had more meat to it. I still can't believe they released with only quest leves and main plot missions..... ><;;
