I best change that to 'changed' then, like the title. I had thought 'as it currently is' communicated my thought properly.

Ok, fair enough. I've long since started to NPC any orange or other useless materia that comes my way. The one exception is MND since it pains me so much that it is in fact useless. I suppose I shouldn't complain that WHM AF is so good since it is one of my main classes but it is frustrating that I can't think of anything useful to do with all my MND materia.
There is no difference in change or abolishing, you want to change the current system which just means you want to abolish the old one and change to new systems, anyway enough about this.
I just pointed why current system is beneficial, if you thinks they are bad or terrible, do you hhave any suggestions on how to improve? What needs changing? How will progression system be implemeneted?

They mean 2 different things. And by changing something you do not abolish it.
That aside, the system is actually negative on the economy because it drives the prices of mats, gear and materia to the extreme. What is good for the seller is bad for the buyer. Too much demand, not enough supply. 1.5 mil for Heavens Eye IV? No thanks. 12k for a Cobalt Plate? No thanks.
It even gives RMT all the more freedom to make gil since those 15 stacks of Karakul Fleece will sell in a few hours.

I have a better idea for multiple meld imho.
ABOLISH the whole luck system.
And do something like: NQ item: 1 materia slot - Hq : 2-3 slot materia slot.. no more BOOM, no more gil buyer win. NO MORE STRESS!
This will give much more sense to HQ too..
It could work even on rare/ex item if they decide to meld them:
easy mode drop: 1 slot - normal: 2 slot - hard mode 3 slot.
Meritocracy, Yes please. Luck/money based iWin, NO THANKS!

I see nothing wrong with the current materia system.
100% chance for 1 materia on everything, if you want to be more powerful you have to risk it. If melding multiples was garenteed the market would instantly crash and everyone would be extremely overpowered.
Nothing in the game requires double melds honestly, except relics and that is suppose to be difficult to get.
AS for the complaints of cost it is all relative. Yea that heavens eye is 1.5mill... you know how much money you get in a 2hr long materia session? People in my ls averaging 2-3 mill an hour. So items costing alot mean nothing when you can make alot as well.
The only change I'd make would be to remove the different tiers into tiers.
That currently makes 20 materias for each type, that is too many and doesn't add much to the table.
Please please please PLEASE do something like this.I have a better idea for multiple meld imho.

Seriously the biggest problem I have with FFXIV right now is the Materia system. I absolutely HATE it as it is right now.
Something like this though, a "gemming" system where pieces of gear have set numbers of slots that you can slot Materia into and swap materia in and out of to customize your piece of gear with no chance of failure would be awesome. Reduce the potency of materia as it is now so it doesn't become too ridiculous (If HQ items have 2 slots have it be like stat items give +15 at max tier IV instead of +20, so the max you can get is +30 from Materia. Still a substantial amount, but stuff like Darklight is still more desirable because it actually relies on a bit of skill to obtain it instead of all luck.) People who have double/triple melds already might complain, but honestly a change like this would make the game so much better in my opinion.
Of all the changes made since FFXIV's launch, I honestly think Materia was the only HUGE step backwards.
