I like the recommendations of replacing the dated gear with relevant updated pieces.
Something along the lines of my Dated Leather Espadrilles would become "Leather Type" Espadrilles after conversion
    But
I'm sure if they could do that they would have done it the first time around, no?

My Espadrilles have been through a lot with me, so I get the sentimental value stuff, however I would be happy if they would just add more Espadrilles into the game.
Currently the only non dated espadrilles are sub lvl 20 :|

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to make edits to the database to replace a dated item with a newer item its equivalent in level, but you run into the issue of the newer items having class/job and level requirements which the dated equipment didn't really have.

Personally, I'd prefer to keep them. On my character I am posting with, I have couple Dated Canvas pieces for a roleplaying set that I really like. I probably have a few other dated pieces that I can't remember right now that I use, as well.

The angels dance like feathers float, they're here to see and to be seen,
The clock strikes two, the music slows and each one slowly dons their wings,
Once outside they all pair off and hand in hand they leave
But I'm still waiting, yeah, and I'm still waiting

not to mention there are several places dated gear would fit right in, for instance bronze armor set would be lvl 15 an the iron armor set could be lvl 25. there are also some pieces of gear will never see again should they nix dated stuff entirely.

I do not wanted dated gear simply removed. I mean, it is my inventory anyway right? I rather have them make dated gear no longer craftable if anything. There are some armor sets that I really love, however they are dated for any color except dark red. (the canvas armors) So I do not want my pink and different color sets being taken away! Not to mention I love the look of some of the dated head gear! Sure, get them out of circulation overtime, but let me keep my treasures I choose in my retainer.

If SE delete all my gear for no useful purpose whatsoever then I'll not play 2.0, simple as that. There is NO point in deleting items that already exist, at all.
There are lots of places to get new gear without an LS.

There are always shouts in Ul'dah for pickup groups.
You can buy it form the Market Ward.
    You can craft it yourself.
You can get it from quest rewards.
You can get it from leve rewards.

Most activities have at least some chance of getting you new gear. If you have nothing that isn't dated, I do wonder what you've been doing for the last year.

The ONLY way I think they should delete the dated items is if they KEEP THEM IN THE GAME, update them to the current, and allow us to alter color schemes of ALL gear to whatever color we want.

Some of the dated gear can be dyed colors that "new" junk can't be. We should be allowed to dye gear whatever color we want, without the need of a craft to do so. If they did that I believe some of the complaining will be gone. Since a lot of people just want to be able to wear something different in town.

Some gear a lot of us just wouldn't wear and would like to just wear something different from time to time because we get sick of staring at everyone wearing AF or the same items, people want to look different once in a while.

With all offense intended: I wouldn't be caught dead in Coliseum gear, whoever desidned that needs to be fired or not allowed to design the gear looks anymore. There is a difference between the terms of gear looking "cute", "sexy" and "may as well wear nothing". The coliseum items are closer to the third then anything I personally think its one of the worst looking items that SE has ever made. Coatees for example have some degree of class to them, Coliseum does not. When armor leaves less to the imagination then underwear there is a problem.

In all seriousness though, some of the dated items people wear because the color/design is not available in the game at all anymore (example I don't think newer coatees come in pink or black which look the best on some characters).

We should be able to KEEP any dated items we have. I don't care if you remove the ability to make them that's fine, but those of us who have items we like the looks of on our characters, even if only for cosmetic purposes should not be punished for Yoshi-P's lack of planning.

I will not spirit bond them since spirit bonding is a waste of time and money since most materia is worthless, I will just keep them.

To all you crafters, I am NOT re-buying something I lost because square enix's development team doesn't know what they are doing and are unable to think far enough ahead into the future, they are the ones at fault.

Also most of us had those "dated" items before they were "dated" and we decided to keep them for the looks alone. So any debate you may put up against having them in the first place such as "you shouldn't have bought them" is completely invalid since a large number of us had them before "dated" even existed.

Well by that logic, all of your current gear will be old when 2.0 launches, so you should be completely naked and have to start over.

All they need to do is simply not allow for the selling of dated items via AH (still trade/bazaar if you feel like it), since everyone feels that it would clutter things. It's one thing to delete the items used to make them, but getting rid of the actual gear itself is a bit ridiculous.

As for new players, I'd certainly hope they're not so dumb that someones trophy dated gear ruins the game for them.

I remember as a new player I used to see the "high level" mages running around in pink canvas gear and I would dream of wearing it myself one day. This year I finally got the crafting levels to be able to make the pink canvas set. There was a modern "red" linen set but it was the pink canvas I made with such fond memories and pride. I still have it, along with a few extra pieces of pink canvas and a few other items I made with it. SE can take my canvas and the recipes that use it, but they'll have to fight me tooth and claw to make me give up my precious clothes that I made with it. Please, get rid of the recipes if you really want to but let us have our dated gear that we already made or bought! I never want to see a precedent where deleting items is OK. Even the materials for the dated items should be left to the player to decide to hoard or NPC off, with the fair warning that they can never be used in any recipe again. I'd volunteer to give up every nugget and leather strap I have right now to keep my dated gear though; please, please don't take my pink canvas robes away!
