Gameplay demo at Gamescom needs to be Super-Duper-Ahmazing

Oh don't worry, I will be very honest about how I feel after Gamescom. I don't have high expectation, but I want to set expectation for MMO launching in year 2013 okay. And if Guild Wars 2 can do a 45 minute demo with videos of people playing, gameplay, character creation, etc, then FFXIV ARR should top that. FFXIV ARR should do better than that because this is our second chance, not our first.

They blew it on the first try. Second try should be even better than GW2, TERA, The Secret World, all MMOs that came out 2012-2013.

If they want the game to succeed, they need to do exactly what you said, they need to do everything in their power to impress. So far, they have done pretty bad in that area. It's all been very half-hearted, and half-hearted simply isn't good enough.

The cynic in me totally expects Gamescom 2010 all over again, though.

Definitely agree, everyone knows Square can do pretty CGI, but they need to show they can back FFXIV up with the gameplay, and that they've fixed all of these things that plagued the game in the beginning.

watching for example Blade&Soul gameplay is kinda captivating because of the combat system. In such games, it's made to seem rather cinematic. And so people get excited watching it.

The gameplay in FFXIV is a hard-sell by comparison. I think it's something that is better to play firsthand than experience second-hand.

You kinda have to realise that the things that will change the most are the environments and the user-interface. That's really it, so it's gonna be the same game as before with a faster interface and lots of new content. So the moral of the story is: be reasonable.

Well, all I'm really expecting is that they'll show something. Not hard to get disappointed there, unless they decide to take it away at the very last minute like they did with the whole E3 trailer thing.
