XIII-2 was amazing. What are you suggesting?"Lately" FFXIII/FFXIII-2 FFXIV and Failing to gives us any information about Versus is enough for me to feel this way, not by how the Internet tells me. I love all those games, but seeing others saying how SE is a failure etc etc makes me feel this way and sorry if it offends you if my opinion/worry gets to you.
Edit: Anyways, I asked a simple question not picking a fight.
I used to be Noomy...then i took shiva's Hail Storm to my knee...
Why? Do you think because you pay SE will continue to release awesome, new content? That you will always get the value of what you pay each month? This isn't even a problem with FFXIV and FFXIV 1.0 launch. FFXI is starved of content and updates yet the fee is actually higher, still, than what FFXIV's will be. There hasn't been regularly updated "content" since before WoTG. Recently, there has at least been regular updates (in XI), but it would be foolish to say they were content filled.
I have no problem paying if SE will stay on the ball until the game dies, but that just isn't going to happen. If/as soon as 2.0 is a success, the content will get strung out and you're going to be paying for a chat room.
well for the person saying se knows what they're doing..... did you miss the original release? if you were there for it then you would see that undoubtedly they don't.
now on a serious note. most games can expand off word of mouth, but even if 2.0 is a great success i doubt the normal philosophy is going to work. even if every person that plays the game now floods every site talking about how great the game is they will be drowned out by the vast majority that played the original version and despised it. it will be hard for word of mouth ONLY to make a dent in the reputation this game has. that's partially the fault of the existing players that have been talking down everyone that has a bad opinion about the game since beta. when word of mouth hits those sites now people are just going to look at it as "oh it's those guys again" and just get drowned out by negativity.
to me they are really going to have to advertise hard to get people interested in the game again. a bunch of teasers like the one that just came out won't cut it in my opinion. they are going to need to show comparisons on before and after on gameplay, graphics, story, content, and anything else they can show the public that this is not the same game as what it was on release. the vast majority doesn't even know about 2.0 as far as the depth of the changes that are being made. they are going to have to hit the ps3 and pc versions twice as hard as normal due to the fact the initial release had such worldwide hatred. they need those that hated the original version to try the new one and admit it's not like it was when they left.

XI is running on nothing more than a skeleton crew, i almost fell out of my chair when i heard they had an expansion back for FFXI in 2013. i'm not so worried about advertisement, if SE can sell a few hundred million of two of the worst games ever there advertisement department is doing something right. its SE's Commitment issue's i'm concerned with. Why? FFXI (before the Lv75+ increases) was never starved of content, it had tons and it had constant updates & expansions, it only started to slow down as it hit around 6 years old.FFXI is starved of content and updates yet the fee is actually higher, still, than what FFXIV's will be. FFXIV will continue to pump out content after 2.0, they'll most likely be expansions and constant game updates for at least 5-6 years and if the playerbase remains large even longer
Yet people are still paying more money that we will for 14, which is my point.
It'll happen to 14, which is why it should be free, like every other MMO.
Not every other MMO is free, and I perfer P2P model over Pay-to-win/F2P
of course it will happen as the game ages but it won't happen for years
A mistake =/= not knowing what you're doing. It's called a mistake. Every professional makes mistakes no matter how good they are, because perfection does not exist in humanity. And you have to admit, they have to know better than you at the very least, considering they went from 0 to 138B. You will never see 138B in your lifetime, so I think it's safe to assume they did not make all that money without at least a little knowledge on how to sell their shit. Considering no one here has sold even 1% as much, nor ever will, please tell me how SE isn't better qualified to handle this.
FFXIV will get noticed once they make good on their promise to restore the game to the quality we've come to expect from them after so may blockbuster titles under their belt.
That means they also need to surpass the common opinion of FFXIII and it's successor.
After that, they need to advertise, showing game-play. And not just any gameplay. In game cutscenes, large-scale events, combat, character development, and side-entertainment like the Golden Saucer.
They display all these things in their advertising, coupled with word of mouth form us, they'll get the attention they need, and they'll deserve it form their efforts.
They also need to impress the critics - the very ones that told the world that this thing was a steaming pile of crap. Get them to publicly say 'apology accepted, this is the game it should have been' and people will leap on it in droves.
