You forgot cyber linkshells, and roleplay linkshells, and crafting linkshells, and miqote only linkshells :Pi'm perfectly fine with shells that have applications. there's multiple different kinds of shells. there's also multiple different kinds of people that play the game. it's not your place to tell others they aren't playing the game right no more than it's their right to tell you that.
here's a few of the different shell types:
1. social shell -these are for anyone that wants to get in the shell for the most part. they take low level and high level players regardless of experience. these people are more worried about chatting and playing the game in a more relaxed environment. i am in a few of these and enjoy it for just talking. i do not do events with these types of shells because i prefer to do events with people i have a chance at winning content. that doesn't mean i am not willing to help them, but that it's not what i normally do events with.
2. social/endgame - these are more of a higher level player, but they are a little more reserved for who they invite. usually these do not have applications needed, but they only invite people they know, can play the jobs decently, and are not known as a pest on the server. these shells do end game and other types of content pretty regular and are quite friendly because it's mostly high level friends together in the shell.
3. endgame only - these shells are he ones that are very selective and have an application page. some use the dkp system and some go strictly by what you are playing in the party. these groups are dedicated hardcore players and only want to play with players that have the same mentality. i have been in these types of shells in every mmo i have been in because this is the mentality i have. i don't mind putting in an application and there's actually shells i'd like to get into on my sever because i have the same mentality as they do, but do to work schedules i can't make the strict event rules. i can't blame them for it either because i would be the same way towards them if i was the one as head of the shell.
the point is if you want to get into a strict endgame shell you need to expect them to be more strict with who they let in because they have higher goals of what they expect to accomplish over a social shell. if putting in an application for an endgame shell is something you don't want to do or be involved in then you don't fit that mentality and you should either start your own shell or find a group of people that have the same opinions as you do. they are playing the game the way they wish to play the game and nothing is wrong with that anymore than the way you want to play it. those shells just don't fit into what you want out of the game anymore than you don't fit what they want for members so it's best to just find a group that does fit what you want out of the game.
