Solved? It would be a helluva lot closer to a solution. If at server mergers (or at 2.0 coming up) SE said "Gungnir server is now EST, Masamune is PST, Ragnarok is EU" etc, it would give players direction on where to make their characters. Linkshells could also migrate to places where they could recruit and be in active timezone with the most amount of players on their server. Right now picking a server is a total crapshoot. The average player does not want to do research about where to make their character. They want to get in and play the game as soon as possible. It shouldn't be that you have to know someone in order to know where to go and that is one of the major limitations of international server organizations. Nevermind ping times, that's another scenario altogether (region-based, rather than region-organized which I am suggestion).

It boils down to this--for each person on your server that isn't willing/doesn't speak your language, that is one less player you have the option to play the game with. Right now that's the majority situation on no matter which server you are on (except perhaps Ragnarok). And I get the feeling that NAs want to have something to do with JPs but the reverse isn't necessarily true. I think this was pretty evidence by how aggressive people on these forums were about "preserving community" of their original server. I feel it's a misguided idea to try and include people in that word "community" when they really couldn't care less about it. They won't even invite you to parties given the choice, why do they want to share server space with you?
