Please explain how I am being a bigot.. lol. This should be good. Because I don't want to learn a third language to play with half of the people on my server? Please come up with something better than that.

**EDIT2: Japanese may think its trendy and fun to pick up odd phrases and pretend they can speak English, but I can assure you it's not the same way the other way around (except for avid anime fans/ the otakus they despise). This in combination with the fact that Japanese are extremely Xenophobic or whatever social issues they have with the west and the rest of the world makes for the matching of JP with EU NA DE FR almost entirely redundant. As someone who uses auto-translate for more than just being lazy and having a sentence finisher, i am extremely frustrated.**

As for the Otaku bit and not being able to get out of Tokyo without knowing some Japanese, 1) I don't care what other people think about me, if they want to shun me then that's their problem, 2) Tokyo would probably be my one and only stop if I were to go, 3) after reading your post I probably wouldn't go to Japan even if someone paid me to go. That is if I took people who preach about things they don't know because they like the sound of their own voice and subsequently the smell of their own flatulence seriously.

Please do a little bit more research on Ottawa, and if you are ever planning to visit Canada I would strongly recommend visiting Ottawa and enjoying the many museums parades festivals cuisine and architecture.

    EDIT:
A quick google search for "Ottawa Culture" lead me to this nifty little site: http://www.ottawakiosk.com/

"From humble beginnings, Ottawa has evolved into Canada's cultural capital. The most difficult problem visitors have when visiting Ottawa is choosing what to do first. There are over 50 galleries and theatres in the region, showcasing the best of Canadian and international art, theatre, music, and dance performances. The city's museums, heritage buildings, parks, and monuments paint an exciting picture of its colourful past, while also allowing a glimpse of its future."

    EDIT3:

You really have no idea what you're talking about. If I can only party between 8AM-2PM EST every day but the only other people online are Japanese (minus the few non Japanese) then I am more likely to quit than if those few non Japanese online at that time from each server were on the same server.

I just really don't understand why this isn't a hot topic on the forums, and how there's almost a unanimous vote from English speaking players on these forums in favor of playing with people who don't want to play with them unless they know their language. I really hope the Japanese get their way (for once) and SE forces segregation on us.

Because they really enjoy playing with the japanese that do play with them and the ones that don't do not actually bother them?

I mean, all of my experiences with the JP crowd were pretty stellar, even though they were few and far between (because of my timezone). I mean, I had a random JP in a levelling party at a time, it was pretty neat, even though he did not say much. Once in an AF run pickup group for Dzemael there were two, it was kind of funny, because of them nobody spoke out of auto-translate since nobody was sure who actually spoke what language XD.
And then most recently my friends and I were hunting for a Caravan, we picked up some three JPs in the group as well, it was kind of amusing they knew just barely enough english to coordinate (like, literally used two~ words in english to coordinate spawn timers and flare use) but they were still pretty chatty with eachother, one of my friends who knows a smidgen of japanese even had some communication in romanji.

You're fighting a losing battle, Jack. The otaku around here wear blinders to Japan's xenophobia.

Remember, white-skinned American men are the only people in the world capable of racism and sexism. Welcome to the 21st century.

Well, that's really unfortunate. I'm not going to quit either way but I know people who will unless they segregate servers or have a comprehensive and easier to use auto-translate. The one we have now is a complete joke. <insert obligatory ps3 limitations here>

    I'm starting to see this.

When PvP releases and the Japanese are destroying everyone else we shall see how everyone feels about this. Aside from "I enjoy playing with random Japanese once in a blue moon, you know the ones who don't hate me", I haven't seen a valid argument.

I'm kinda against the idea having segregate servers. Having diversity of ppl are what I'm expecting from international MMO.

Besides, I have fun pt-ing with jp ppl. I would even try to communicate better using auto-translate, although sometimes I'm throwing 'please use auto-translate' just for tease (which usually happens if I saw shouts in foreign language).

I did. it's not that you're unwilling to learn a new language. it's you're not willing to see your own faults and accept things for what they are.

I understand your frustration, but it's unlikely to happen. take my suggestions and come up with some recommendations to improve the auto translate function.

asking for segregated servers may seem like a good idea to you, but the reality of the situation is it's unlikely to happen because of how it is viewed elsewhere.

but who knows. I could be wrong. maybe they are seriously considering it.

That's fine. but Tokyo isn't 'Japan' without seeing Kanazawa, Kyoto, Miyajima, Sapporo, etc. you're really missing out. it's like saying Toronto is canada. can someone really experience canada visiting one city?

And really this is off topic. I brought it up to bring a point. The point was lost. so no point in continuing this train of thought, as it's mostly irrelevant. I was trying to explain why you're a biggot. it didn't work. so back on topic

Off topic. not talking about this.

So...you've just removed the largest chunk of people that would be online during your peak time. i don't see how that helps you. instead of there being a lot of people on you can't talk to (although have a chance of partying with if you adjust your behavior) there's just no-one on.

Right. so that makes sense. instead of you being frustratd you can't talk to anyone you can be frustrated because there's no-one on to talk to.

Trust me: I get it. your solution doesn't actually solve the problem.

Why don't you play on the EU server? that would put you online between noon and like 6pm.

it's not a hot topic because you're in a minority within the minority. how many other people in the graveyard shift are complaining? i'm only seeing a handful. so a small subset of the people that play have the problem of being on during a different time zone. and within that subset there are people who can't communicate effectively to play.

Segregating the servers is a 'scorched earth' approach to the problem. if they segregate the servers the auto-translate function is now obsolete. they would need to remove that code. they could leave it in, however. but then it will serve a very different purpose. in reality it's used as supplement to help cross the language barrier. it's not to cross the language barrier.

I recommend either switching servers and playing with the EU crowd or learning some japanese. the fact your'e trying will go a long way.

Ok so I just finished partying with a group of Japanese doing the Moogle primal fight. The first round was a fail but round two was 勝利のために.

I had to use google translate about 30 some-odd times (mostly they weren't talking about me), they were very patient though and said I was a very helpful foreigner.. lol..

The only thing that bugged me was that only one or two of them had a couple good words to help me out, everyone just continued talking to me in Japanese. There needs to be serious reform to auto-translate or segregated servers. either or. Onisake please look up the definition of bigot, there is a huge difference between being intolerant and not wanting to learn another language.
