The only thing that bugged me was that only one or two of them had a couple good words to help me out, everyone just continued talking to me in Japanese. There needs to be serious reform to auto-translate or segregated servers. either or. Onisake please look up the definition of bigot, there is a huge difference between being intolerant and not wanting to learn another language.
See, you can do it if you try.

Serious reform is not needed. period.

a couple more phrases may need to be added to help out. but reform is not needed.

segregated servers are not needed. you just proved you can play nice when you try.

I'm not saying you need to learn the ENTIRE language either. a couple of phrases to help smooth the transition. heck you don't even need to memorize them. make a cheat sheet and copy paste.

    Here:

    http://shigemo.com/FFXI/nihongo_guide.html

take a couple of the more common ones. auto translate in addition to this should get you just about anywhere you need to. (forgot this existed, i just remembered. Would have liked to have opened with that, but w/e)

    -----------------------------------

you seem like a nice guy if you're not raging out on something, but honestly you come off too strong.

your first post is a wall of japanese text. (or more correctly one phrase repeated over and over) followed by a 'WTF is this?'

that seems pretty intolerant to me.

you went on to say that 9/10 japanese people don't like english speakers. when it was explained why, you continued to rant about nonsense. again, this seems intolerant to me.

finally you went on to preach your own cultural significance by claiming to be from Ottawa. which...like i tried (and failed) to explain was not the best course of action. ESPECIALLY on the NA forums.

everytime someone has suggested you learn the language or viable paths forward for recomendations to the devs you've fallen back to 'WE MUST SEGREGATE! RAWR!'

so yeah. you look intolerant. sorry man. you even admitted you came off too harshly.

so cool down a bit. we're trying to help you out, not just blindly disagreeing with you.

Sorry I have to disagree with you. using google translate will be impossible for ps3 players unless they have a lap top. next u will try to convince me that people without a laptop to use google translate are bigots.

Honestly being on international servers brings nothing to this game whatsoever. If it went away tomorrow, I doubt it would effect anything at all. Just creates more problems for new players really... just look at all the threads that pop up like "What server do I chose?" "I play EST, where should I make my char?" Picking a server for XIV is like trying to understand how this entire game works -- absolutely 0 direction 9/10 times lol

Well to be honest I don't think the points you just gave here would really be resolved via segregation of servers, but quite frankly I wouldn't have stayed on Masamune if I knew that 50%~ of its player base was going to be JP

Solved? It would be a helluva lot closer to a solution. If at server mergers (or at 2.0 coming up) SE said "Gungnir server is now EST, Masamune is PST, Ragnarok is EU" etc, it would give players direction on where to make their characters. Linkshells could also migrate to places where they could recruit and be in active timezone with the most amount of players on their server. Right now picking a server is a total crapshoot. The average player does not want to do research about where to make their character. They want to get in and play the game as soon as possible. It shouldn't be that you have to know someone in order to know where to go and that is one of the major limitations of international server organizations. Nevermind ping times, that's another scenario altogether (region-based, rather than region-organized which I am suggestion).

It boils down to this--for each person on your server that isn't willing/doesn't speak your language, that is one less player you have the option to play the game with. Right now that's the majority situation on no matter which server you are on (except perhaps Ragnarok). And I get the feeling that NAs want to have something to do with JPs but the reverse isn't necessarily true. I think this was pretty evidence by how aggressive people on these forums were about "preserving community" of their original server. I feel it's a misguided idea to try and include people in that word "community" when they really couldn't care less about it. They won't even invite you to parties given the choice, why do they want to share server space with you?

    ??????????????????

    {please use the auto-translate function}

You try to use Auto-Translate for something that specific. I do believe that is what they are laughing at.

Also, one thing that has been bothering me about this thread - it is only noticeable that JP Players (or other languages) are shouting without the Auto-Translate because you can immediately tell that they are not English players. How do you know that the majority of the shouts that ARE Auto-Translated are not coming from JP Players already??? Do you reply to each and every shout to see if they are English or JP?

Well I know one thing, I think if I ever wanted to visit Canada, now I never will visit Ottawa.

On my server it's incredibly rare to see a completely 100% auto-translated message. In my experience, almost every time I reply to a completely auto-transed sentence, it has been either a English party or French party (barring one or two incidents). The reason why I don't single out French or German is because most French or German people I've spoken to (barring a rare few) can speak English, most likely because speaking EN is more common in Europe (and most of the world) as apposed to speaking JP.

    Obvious troll bait is obvious.

That's what I've been trying to say :P
'Oh look how many people are on right now!! Super, I can only speak to 40% of them without google translate. At least the people I can't play with are super cute when flipping tables <3 (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

SE said "Gungnir server is now EST, Masamune is PST, Ragnarok is EU"
The direct result of that will be...each server will be a ghost town for each of their respective non-primetimes. I'll choose "activity I don't understand" over "no activity at all" any time, all the time.

Ragnarok is indisputable proof that segregated servers don't work. It is the only server that needs a hamlet point adjustment.
