Simply put, what matters is not the speed of leveling -- but the perception of leveling. This game -- and XI -- desperately needs a TON of more content for low-level players, and not just quests. It needs more ways that low-level players can feel connected to the community, useful to the community -- and frankly, to feel like they're actually playing a game, and not participating in 'filler' until the real game starts.

There need to be low-level instances, more options for getting xp other than leves, more incentives for higher lv players to help out -- a mentoring program, perhaps? -- more events that allow different levels to work together in some capacity, more battle systems that allow for low-man and low-level parties -- in short, there needs to be a game at every level, not just at 50, and not just at certain instances.

Speeding up the leveling is a lazy way out. It won't fix the problem. Heck, if they just gave me a lv 50 character today, in this state of the game, I wouldn't be interested. SE needs to give the game a lot more oopmh if it wants a success.
Ok, point proven and I admit defeat in the faster leveling bit.

Faster leveling = lazy and a cheap way out, this much is true.

However, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who wants more low/mid level content.

The question to ask is, if we were given a level 50 character would the game be fun? The answer to that is no, because all you could do is quests and end game. For people who do not enjoy end game that only leaves quests.

The idea is to build a community where everyone is equally important and contributes. A community where people feel welcome. Right now, this game is very frigid. As a returning player I don't feel welcome in this game at all. If I was a new player, I'd feel the same if not worse.

I don't really agree with that statement. Any avid MMO player will tell you the most enjoyable part of an MMO is the end game unless you just love grindfest MMOs and if that is the case there are still plenty of them out there for you to go play. The main reason it will be even easier to get to 50 is so people who want to come enjoy the game and play with friends will have the opportunity to do so especially considering most players who play now have majority of the classes to 50 unless they are semi new players.

Also there may be a level cap bump and you may reach 50 quicker but they didn't say it would be fast past that. Though honestly with the current system it is already a really fast process from 1-50 so why complain? Back in the day when I played XI I enjoyed a nice grind though as I have gotten older I really don't like the like grind in an MMO anymore I rather get leveling done asap and get to the end game content because that is where all the fun is to me.

I also disagree on this, it is not a cheap or lazy way out. Why make content for the low level players even now when you already at this point in the game out level the content before you even know it exists? Or even feel like wasting your time to go do the content because you are wasting time to go do said content instead of just leveling and getting to the real content that is beneficial to your character?

I understand making content for fun for low level players but I really don't see a big outcry for low level content in this game by the fans. Give them several ways to go about leveling up in different forms of content and that is beneficial to the them. It is cheaper perhaps to the company but not lazy for them to make leveling even faster for the new people when the majority of the content is going to be focused for the level 50s. Though they are adding new mini towns as hubs where you can pick up quests as well as doing levequests etc and other forms of content so new players will level up while doing new content and will probably level up faster because of it.

If the level cap is lifted, the experience needed for the next level is always adjusted and that's cool seeing that its done all the time and the exp curb is astronomically impossible to break. People would be grinding for days to get to lv.51 causing the fatigue to kick in, resulting in 10~0xp every kill up until tally.
Unless you're talking about the 'soft' cap, this simply is not possible. Every game with some sort of leveling experience has a "cap", for a myriad of reasons. Most simply put though, it's impossible to not have a 'hard' cap somewhere, or also what's known perhaps as a 'end level' to some of us (which in the case of most FF games is like Lv.99). It's just like how I and others have pointed out you can throw the whole "leveling" experience out, but you'll still have some form of grindy advancement and the sort as long as it's a non-PVP centric RPG.

:3 You're right~ Nobody really does care about leveling!
Leveling should be a fun journey, not something to skip through to get to the boring repetitive stuff at the end~
Took me years to get to the "end" (level 75 at the time) in XI because there was SO much to do and explore.. So many adventures to be had in that game. Once I got to 75 things got repetitive, and after a while, a little dull.

    I miss the journey.

Um, leveling is already fast. Why not get rid of lvls altogether while you're at it? (basically that's what this will do anyway)

I guess this is confirmation that the ultimate goal of FFXIV is to lvl everything to 50. Then quit.

Wow the past few pages have brought a tear to my eye, the community is having a nice debate without ripping each other apart. I picture everyone sitting around a nice warm fire in very comfortable chairs with their glass of wine and their monocles, debating but keeping it peaceful. There just might be hope for us as a community to come together and I dare say live in harmony? I love you community.

    1. Speak for yourself. I am not a fan of end game and I know plenty of people who share my feelings. However, if end game is your cup of tea then by all means, go for it but give me and the rest of us alternatives. That being said, the content in a game should not be focused on end game content singularly like SE has a tendency to do. They should focus on low/mid level content as well because it is just as important to attract new players and keep them playing until endgame as it is in keeping the older players who have reached endgame.

    2. The reason you need low/mid level content has already been partially answered in my first point. To add to that, you have to understand that this game will be relaunching in 2.0 and it will experience an influx of new players - well in theory anyway. This game needs a way to retain those players and adding low/mid level content is one answer.

    3. The game the way it is now will not retain new and even some returning players because of an overall unwelcoming community and hyper-inflated economy.

    4. So basically, the actual answer is give us more to do starting from level 1 in such a way that it helps produce a good community.

Leveling is the boring repetitive stuff. You kill internet monsters 100,000 times you get a level and guess what now you got to kill 200,000 internet monsters to go up the next level! OH boy that is so much fun!

Now I admit beginning of FFXI was fun because all the bullcrap you had to go through to get to the next area and I really enjoyed that when I had plenty of time to play all I had to worry about was High School during the day and the rest of my time was FFXI. Now I don't have that pleasure and many are like me would rather just have alittle bit of fun leveling up and get it done and do the content that is challenging. I think it will be even more enjoyable even if it is quicker in 2.0 with the diverse zones and camps that have quest hubs and other content that you get exp from. It will be a journey, heck I am thinking of rerolling with friends that will be new to the game once 2.0 comes out and get to have that journey + a little edge.
