Again, it is very hard to classify casual vs hardcore, because many of the aspects are interdependent. I can be very skilled but i may not have an end game linkshell, does that mean i am blocked from experiencing this content? I want to advance the storyline too and experience the dungeon, but i only play 2 hrs a day and i dont have any friends online.
In my opinion there should be content for both. The end. Have the content or dungeon adjustable by difficulty so all dungeons and content can be experienced by everyone.
I think the Hardcore vs. Casual debate is based on false premise.
Casual player: logs in every now and again, does leves, solo grinds for an hour logs out. Has maybe 1 50.
I think there are few casual gamers in the FFXIV universe. They log our for so long and play so little, they get lost at every patch release. I think a lot of them went back to Angry Birds, the ultimate casual experience. Log in, play some, log out.
Hard Core is also something different. I think a hard core person is the type that uses parsers, makes their own recipe books, bestiaries, stat charts. Someone who eat, drinks and breathes ffxiv in order to be the best player on the server.
I don't think there are a lot of Hard Core players here. A lot of them just got bored with the lack of content in the game. They burn through content so quickly that they log out for months at a time and play other things. They already have finished what's available for the Relic Reborn quest.
Most of the people are somewhere in the medium. They log in at the same time every day, play a good 3-4 hours daily, mostly into battle content that's easy to run through in that time frame, wear decent gear, and are good fun to play with.
A lot of Hardcore people would call them casual, a lot of casuals would call them hardcore.
In the end they are neither and they are the majority. FFXIV should cater to them and I think they're doing pretty well at that.
People with alot of free time to spent on game VS people with very short time to play ....
That you have all the free time of the world to spent it on a game doesnt makes you better than those who doesnt, and i doubt it should be rewarded, In fact the people with shortest time to spent on game also pay the same billin as those who play it almost whole day.
In other aspect, i be known alot of people who play 1-2 hours a day who effort more than those who have whole day to play , cause their time is preciouss.... so im AGAINST the OP's Idea.
EDIT; Also forgot to mention... at least to me Hardcore should means people who take game serious as to always aiming into spent their gaming time into accomplish goals succesfully, not the ammount of time invested in the game. Cause there is people like me who play more than 4hrs a day and dont spent all that time it onto end gaming... indeed i dont consider me self hardcore even tho i play more than 4hrs a day.

I believe this has been brought up more times than I can remember. Regardless the whole debate on the casuals vs hardcore is a very touchy one. While I DO believe that there should certainly be more stuff in game that caters to the hardcores, keep in mind that a hardcore player will by default have many more things than a casual player does in game. Therefore in a sense, that in itself is your "reward". While a hardcore might have all or most classes at max (including crafting and gathering) a casual will only have a few. Now add on to that all the in game experience that a hardcore has compared to a casual (namely knowing where to go, what to do, how to use their class/job properly, etc) because of the time invested and you've got yourself a pretty evened out situation imo.
This game is super casual friendly because I can go and get a weapon/armor drop my first try and some guy who has been doing it 100x gets nothing.
Casuals win!
rofl this. my friend who is extremely casual (plays once in a blue moon, afks mid fight, halfass plays etc) did ifrit..first run got ifrits claws for his mnk..his only job lol and then did 2 more ifrit..got the axe. never did it again. perfect example of why rng is so fail.
