That was one of the most glaring issues if Square-Enix actually made the Scions into romance options; If you were into the ladies, your options were Y'shtola and... yeah that's it. Because not only do people object to Alisaie over her age, but you had others who insisted Krile and Tataru were off the table because of them being Lalafell. Even trying to stretch it and include Lyse was met with pushback due to the large amount of people who apparently dislike her. Oh, and Y'shtola herself has more people that would apparently ship her with a certain NPC than themselves.

With the male options you have at least 4 flavors of bishounen even if you exclude Alphinaud, but even then not everyone finds those dudes desirable.

So yeah, even if the game ever did add some kind of romance mechanic for NPCs, the Scion dating pool would be dire if not a complete wash depending on one's preferences.

Workplace romances often are in for a rough time, so personally I would keep my fingers from any Scion. Then again, I always wondered if there is a Mrs. Hien Rijin? This guy is a state leader, he knows what he's doing most of the time, and seems to be an overall interesting and funny person. Especially when compared to the Scions...

I think it's fair to wait until an Elezen starts what most people would recognize as puberty.

This is sorta confirmed by various bits of in-game information put together. Most specifically, ~8 months are confirmed to pass between patch 2.2 and mid-4.0, and ~3 years between ARR and DT. Obviously there is some flexibility to be argued, but figures like "80 years" are most definitely NOT intended to be interpreted as "80 years, give or take a few"

Three years puts Alisaie at age 19 as of DT, which means she's still very much a child because Elezen are late bloomers.

Could you elaborate on these 8 months passing between 2.2 and 4.0? I'm interested in figuring out how much time has passed in the story and I don't recall when this was mentioned, besides the boat trip to Kugane taking a while.

I too would prefer certain other NPCs before I would consider the Scions, of which Y'shtola is the only one I would want.

As luck would have it, most of those NPCs are class/job ones that are literally doing nothing else right now and are canonically capable of engaging in combat due to their own class/job just in case there's any concern about them tagging along on adventures (well... except one, but even just getting out of bed can be a danger for her). The writers can come up with any excuses they want to ship Y'shtola back off to the First if they really want to make the Runar thing happen, I won't be too heartbroken about it and wish them well.
